OGRE Revamp
Ok so this post is about kicking off some changes to OGRE and GM’ing
Alright, so I’m going to lay it out
Post Rationale : OGRE is too complex, burdensome and is inimical to solving the GM Shortage.
Action being proposed: Simplification of OGRE and reforming the GMT process. (By reforming I meaning completely abandoning it in favour of something different rather then small changes)
Business case: In a recent command post I stated that to ensure sustainable GM levels for ships to maintain activity levels and club longevity that we needed a increase of a 2:1 GM staffing ratio per ship environment (ideal) and a 1.5:1 staffing ratio as a acceptable level. This is to cover LOAs, AWOLS and help prevent burnout. Currently we have 7 active GM’s and 3 GMT’s in the pipeline. So minimally we need to find or have 15 active GM’s and 5 GMT’s to maintain activity levels for 12 environments.
Recommended action: Reduce the administrative burden to GMD/GMM’s and GMTs with the goal of eliminating needless hoops, steps and delays. As the more I reread the clubs charters the more I come to the conclusion that it was meant to actively slow progression and put a lot of fun behind gates that were zealously kept to ensure that only the worthy and not the unwashed masses could do those things.
So my main suggestion is - make things as fun as possible with some basic structure and simple easy to understand and comply with rules and prohibitions.
What GMT would look like:
- Dump the 3 GMT recommendations in exchange for a simple and importantly singular endorsement from any member of the club ranked Captain or higher.
- Reverse the entire GMT experience. Get your endorsement, get assigned a GMM and join their ship as a trainee, if the GMM is awol get shuffled about.
- GMM teaches and talks to his mentee and instructs him in the ways of the sith (of course there was going to be a star wars joke in here, GM’s basically are sith lords lol)
- All currently active and GM’ing members of Advanced GM rank and up are required to be available to GMM if requested by GMD
- Once the GMM decides the GMT is ready - then they take the GMT exam as their final piece for graduation.
- Off they go into the wild
For the clubs and my fellow GM’s consideration.
