That sounds really nice. I mean, the attitude sounds nice. But I’m wondering about the implementation of that attitude, whether or not it is consistent, and whether that consistency is a problem. The devil is in the details.

For instance, one of your opponents mentioned that he relaxed AWOL policy in the fleet he was commanding for a few months specifically to make things easier for people in his fleet. Whether or not that was the right thing to do (which, I reserve the right to ask him about as I bounce back and forth between you tonight), I’m pretty sure other fleets did not also do this during the term. Don’t you think that the fact that an inconsistency between fleets was allowed by you (or, more specifically, Steve, but you are the Vice President so it’s fair to say “you”), could have resulted in an inconsistent set of expectations that causes people to be more confused, rather than less? Isn’t confusion bad because it puts the person who needs help in the awkward position of trying to figure out on their own whether or not it’s appropriate to ask for?

You’re right - it’s very easy to say the words without the actions behind them. I absolutely agree that confusion is bad and extremely clear expectations are something that Rob and I hope to provide next term. I’ve learned a lot over the past seven months about more explicitly defining expectations for the club and, while I’m sure there will be questions along the way, I hope that Rob and I can present a clear model of what we would like for the club and for our team.
