This term saw the successful discussion, proposal, and permanency of our first Alt-RPG area in a while. While Rob and I support X-Fleet as a place to experiment with ideas that don’t fit the mold of STF without burdening club resources, we do want to make sure that people have the opportunity to propose alternate ideas that SHOULD have club resources behind them.

The FCOMM mold of a Standard Ship has served STF for many many years, but as our membership numbers decrease, so does the demand on this particular mold of ship. Classifying an environment as an Alt-RPG has effects on things like whether new members can be assigned there and what Gamemasters can run a mission there. “Alt-RPG” should not be a burden for an environment to bear; it should simply be a way to specify what makes that particular environment fall outside a standard Star Trek ship.

Action Items:

• Document and distribute a process for Alt-RPGs to be proposed to the club. While a member can do this at any time in Command, this is not well-known and this information needs to be widely available.

• Evaluate the standards for a “Standard Ship” and whether we can better define what “Standard” means and what “Alt” means in our club’s context. Should a ship like the Ogawa, for example, truly be an “Alt” RPG?
