Platform Introduction: Member Support from Top to Bottom

We are both very excited to introduce you to our platform over the next few weeks. Through our positions in STF as an Academy CO, a member of the PDept, and an FComm, we’ve spent the last several months watching where we think the club is going well and where we think there is room for improvement. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown a lot of us just how important our family here is and what the club has to offer to people; let’s work together to bolster the positives and examine and improve on the weaknesses.

For now, as a teaser, here are some of the questions that guided us on our three key platform points:

1. Supporting Member Advancement: How can we make sure that creative, competent new members are progressing through the club at an appropriate pace? How do we make sure that they are getting to where they would like to be in the club, whether that be simply role-playing with their friends on a few ships, being a Commanding Officer, or being a Gamemaster? What if they want to volunteer in government alongside these goals?

2. Documenting and Sharing of Experience: How can we provide a consistent introduction to STF to new members, whether they go through the Academy or directly into the main fleet? How can we summarize 30 years of club history and experience in a way that allows them to be informed participants in the club’s future existence? How do we stop talking about new people being involved in government and actually make it accessible and inviting to them?

3. Bringing the Unique Back: There are a lot of Star Trek RPGs out there, through a variety of mediums. How do we set STF apart from them, beyond the points above? How can we enable our players to control the world that they RP in, within reason, through our existing ship and race design options? Can those be made more accessible? How do we showcase the unique features we already have, like Alt-RPGs and X-Fleet?
