This question is specifically for Matt B, given his response to Scarlet Olivia’s recent question, I’ve quoted the following from that post (not the whole thing because my question is specifically about this paragraph):

“So what I would suggest especially in light of the fact that a recent survey found that 66% of academy graduates felt that they would have benefited from more roleplay, writing and character development that a overhaul of the syllabus to incorporate these concerns as well as to make the evaluation of these requirements more self serve would I think help to increase academy retention rates as well as to improve general graduate standards. The theory being that the academy was setup to essentially acclimate already developed roleplayers to the STF mantra. Where it’s design is lagging behind is in the necessary aids to assist developmental progress rather then simply time for those who require or want it.”

Which survey are you talking about? I did not conduct nor delegate any member of my staff to conduct this survey and to the best of my knowledge nobody at the Office of the President indicated this survey was being undertaken? Do you plan on sharing the specific findings of this survey with the Academy staff regardless of who wins the election?

I’d like to counter ask Kat, are you suggesting there is a requirement to notify you or the president that I have somehow failed to comply with when any member decides to conduct research off his/her own initiative as a part of some later proposal?

Secondly to answer your question, I have always made any material I have generated through my own endeavours available to the specific department it relates to. The GMT exam rewrite has been at GMD’s disposal since it’s inception, the Retention breakdown was first and foremost made available to PDept several days before it’s existance was announced to the rest of the command group through the cabinet discord channel. I am unaware of any reason why this wouldn’t also be the case with a survey aimed at guaging cadet satisfaction with the Academy.

No Matt, I am not. However, usually when people conduct surveys they alert the department it relates to, it encourages community rather than putting people’s backs up. I’ve always said that I’m happy to let people not currently listed in my department spearhead projects, but I appreciate being given a heads up. That way when other members ask me about it, I’m aware of it going on (I did have a member verify with me whether I had contracted someone not on my staff to conduct this survey in fact). It’s only natural that when you’re asking about Academy satisfaction that unless you make it clear that the Academy isn’t involved that people might actually contact the Academy for verification.

My follow up to this, given your first “counter” question to me. Do you intend as President to conduct random surveys without the knowledge of the Department Head or Fleet Commander involved? Why or why not?

Excellent Kat, I only asked because your previous post read as having that kind of implication. Now as to your follow up question. No I have no intentions of doing so. Apart of any term agenda and goals set forth by me would be a stated expectation that each department conduct their own most appropriate method of quantificiation as a furst step where necessary.
