I would like to pose a question to my fellow candidates (I’ll answer this too)

I am a big believer in that while success is all well and good that some of the biggest and best lessons in life are learnt by failure.

Seeing as how we are seeking the highest position of leadership in stf I would like you to recount your greatest or most memorable failure within that area in stf and what you learnt from the experience.

The example of failure in leadership that is coming to mind for me is when I led the Dauntless in X-Fleet, which was my first experience in a CO-type role. I managed to keep it going for something like a year before I handed it off when I needed to step down. So while it was a success in that I managed to keep the ship afloat, it felt like a failure as there always seemed to be people leaving that needed to be replaced and it was often a stuggle to maintain the minimum ship size.

So a couple lessons learned from that experience:

• Aiming for the minimum to get by wasn’t good enough, at least not for very long

• Leading was much easier during the times when I could share the responsibility with another person
