This is a question for our vice presidential candidates.

As a former Vice President, I’m aware that sometimes while the President is on LOA while the President moves to a different continent, the Vice President needs to take care of urgent matters. Examples could be handling a rather tricky e-mail about a complex and sensitive situation and having a cabinet member suddenly quit who only informs you. At least that’s what usually happened to me when the President was on such an LOA.

It can be a bit intimidating being thrown into the position of Acting President. How would you go about tackling urgent matters as Acting President like the ones I described?

Good Evening Adam,

To begin with, let me start by thanking you for providing myself as a Vice President candidate the above question. I will now go on to answer your question. If the above scenario were to take place, I would take the following steps. To start I would collect a copy of the Cabinet members resignation be that a screenshot of a message in Discord or a copy of an email and I would add it into an email to the President. In this email I would explain the situation and when and how it took place. Furthermore, due to the President been on LOA and myself been in the role of acting president I would appoint the assistant director of the department in question as acting director until the President returns and a final decision can be made to whom the new director of that department would be.

Evidence of the above can be seen using the Personnel Department as an example. For example, should I receive a resignation from the Pdept director whilst the President was on LOA I would email the President informing him on what had taken place and appoint the assistant Pdept director as acting director in conjunction with the following quote that I have taken directly from the PDICT document in the Executive departments and assistants section of the Star-Fleet library the quote to support my above steps is as follows.

“The Personnel Director shall appoint an Assistant Personnel Director. The Assistant Personnel Director answers directly to the Personnel Director, and is responsible for departmental decisions in the event the Personnel Director is not available.”
