Election Ship
Question for the candidates- All candidates
Posted by Cale Reilly in Question for the candidates- All candidates
Hello election peeps (that’s you guys!) and sorry for the sheer length of this question. It is in two parts.Part 1) I wanted to do the whole what are your strengths sort of thing but I was pondering how best to do this and instead decided that asking you guys to do a SWOT analysis was actually the best way I could think of. For anyone who doesn’t know a SWOT analysis is a planning technique used to help identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). I will post the questions below but I have used this to structure this question slightly better so feel free to check it out. (https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTMC_05_1.htm)
To perform a personal SWOT analysis write down answers to the following questions. (Or use the worksheet in the site found https://www.mindtools.com/worksheets/Personal_SWOT_Analysis_Worksheet.pdf)
Strengths
What advantages do you have that others maybe don’t have (for example, skills, knowledge, past roles, real life experience of leadership)?
What do you do better than anyone else?
What personal resources can you access?
What do other people see as your strengths?
Which of your achievements are you most proud of?
What values do you believe in that others fail to exhibit?Weaknesses
What tasks do you usually avoid because you don’t feel confident doing them?
What will the people around you see as your weaknesses?
Are you completely confident in your skills or knowledge about the club and it’s bylaws and mandates etc? If not, where are you weakest?
What are your negative work habits (for example, are you often late, are you disorganized, do you have a short temper, or are you poor at handling stress)?
Do you have personality traits that hold you back? For instance, if you have to conduct meetings on a regular basis, a fear of public speaking would be a major weakness.Opportunities
What help could you get from others around the club?
Do you have a network of people to get advice from? And will you utlaise this in your role as president or veep?
What trends do you see in the club atm, and how can you take advantage of them or use them to make changes?
Is there a need in our club that no one is filling or doing? If so what is it and how will you identify and then address it?
What do you think is the thing club members complain about the most ? And how will you create an opportunity by offering a solution?Threats
What obstacles do you think you will face as Prez or veep?
What areas are you really not sure about that you will need to ask for help in?
Could any of your weaknesses lead to threats?Part 2- Leadership
According to Daniel Goleman there are six styles of leadership, results.
Visionary — mobilize people toward a vision.
Coaching — develop people for the future.
Affiliative — create emotional bonds and harmony.
Democratic — build consensus through participation.
Pacesetting — expect excellence and self-direction.
Commanding — demand immediate compliance.
Which style do you think you are and why?
Finally what world leaders (past or present) do you admire most and why?
Thank you!
Cale
