This is a question for the Presidential candidates.

Not even taking into consideration the activity level on the election ship, you’ve both given me reason to question that you have enough time available to do minimum that would be acceptable as President. It’s completely understandable to be in a busy season of life. It’s interesting though to take on a significant role like this when you’re in the middle of that season.

Are you concerned that you don’t have enough time to do the minimum that would be acceptable for a President to do? How will you respond if you find yourself not having time to take care of something as President that really needs to be dealt with?

Hi Adam, If I was to be elected President, I don’t believe I would have too little time to perform my role as President of STF. While life can get busy for everyone, as President there are numerous members with vast amounts of experience to call on for advice and guidance, many who have held the role before and likely very few situations will be new. Not only the members of ‘my own’ Cabinet but others who care about STF as much as you and I do are always willing to offer Wisdom to a busy President.

I find your comment of “do the minimum that would be acceptable for a President to do” thought provoking. As you know recently there has been a massacre in New Zealand where, so far, 50 people have died. As a result I have spent the last days out amongst the local community in support of the victims, as far more than just those people in Christchurch were affected. All of us are part of a larger community, both in STF and in the real world. We need both communities to be safe places for all as well as the members of each community able to enjoy their community and express themselves freely and with respect, and I find no shame in making that a priority.

Should, heaven forbid, a situation like this arise if I am to be President and I am simply unable to perform ‘the minimum’ required due to real life duties, then that is the reason we have a running mate that will step up and take on the Acting President role when needed, such as if I, or yourself for example this term, need an LOA.

I trust James implicitly in this role as my Vice President. James has shown commitment to STF and the ships he is on, and a willingness to get stuck in and contribute to the club without expectation of promotion and recognition. Even more than that, I trust the experienced members of this site who we already turn to in times of need to offer him the same advice and guidance that they do me. That is how STF works as a community, we work together and support each other in times of need.
