These questions are for everyone.

I don’t see a lot of visible effort being put in by anybody on the Election Ship at the moment. Some candidates are even talking in Discord about how bored they have been for the past few days. Usually Election Season isn’t boring for a candidate because they’re busy trying to demonstrate that they’re going to run the club proactively and that they’re a better choice to do that than their opponents. This doesn’t appear to be currently happening.

Why has your campaign posted so very little so far?

Part of the reason has been my real life responsibilities, which even a prez needs to balance with. Secondly much of what Louis and I plan to do has already been declared in our campaign HQ posts. I’m not sure why people are posting about being bored, but perhaps the lack of activity could be due to no front page news being shared with the club at large.

Do you plan on being a reactive President or a proactive President? Which do you think is better? Why?

I plan on being both, right now in the club much of what needs to be done is handled or in planning from what I know of by TECH to finish up our EXODUS deployments and site maintenance. So beyond what we plan to do we plan to keep things simple and straight forward. But! If something is brought to our attention then we will handle it as it comes up.

As for which I think is better it is hard for me to say, because the club changes almost day to day and week to week at times with which is needed. But personally, I find being proactive usually a better fit for myself.

Hi Robert, I have a follow-up.

You state that you plan to be both reactive and proactive and that it is difficult for you to say which is better. Can you share an example of when it is better to be reactive instead of proactive? Explain your reasoning.

In the case of being reactive it would be where a sudden problem comes up and acting on a situation which requires immediate attention. An example might be say a bullying event in a discussion or on a ship which needs presidential action for say punishment or banning and the like.

Sorry to jump in here but Rob can you clarify something for me. Do you think there is a difference between acting on something and reacting to something? If so what is this difference for you? And which one is better for someone in a position of authority to do?

To me acting on something is seeing a problem before it becomes a problem, where as reacting is handling a problem once it becomes a problem.

Does that make sense?

It does. Follow up: If I reword it slightly and say that you are faced with a problem as president. (Doesn’t matter what it is) and a member brings it to you. This is the first you’ve seen or heard from it. There is an opportunity to react or respond and you need to decide is there a difference to you in these option and what would you pick?

I suppose I would respond, as I try not to rush into a hasty action that could carry longer term negative consequences for the club. I would try to get information on the problem at hand wherever possible and make the best informed decision i can in the moment.
