A question for any candidates that wish to answer, whoever they will end up being.

Under what circumstances, if any, would you reject an FComm’s recommendation for a CO appointment?

Hello Adam,

Thank you for providing us candidates with the above question. It is in my opinion that there are several reasons why I as either president or vice president would reject a fleet commander’s recommendation in regards to the appointment of a CO to a particular ship. Throughout this reply I will outline and explain those reason I have for rejecting a recommendation. To begin with the first reason why I feel I would reject an Fcomm’s recommendation is that after evaluating the ship in questions current condition and the skill set and experience of the member in question, I felt that they were not a good fit. It is my opinion that this is an important reason due to the fact that I feel that a ship and its captain should fit together with ease like the correct piece in a Jigsaw. For instance, placing the member as the CO of a medical ship when they have no experience in playing as a cadet, Jo or DH in the medical department would not be a good fit. Whereas on the other hand, placing a CO who has played as a tactical or security JO/DH for several years as the CO of a deep space tactical vessel would be a good fit as they have prior experience in the aforementioned security/tactical environment on other ships.

Furthermore, another reason to why I would reject the recommendation of an Fcomm would be if it had been observed that the member in question has been frequently on LOA or AWOL over the couple of weeks that build up to the members proposed appointment as commanding officer. This I also feel is an important reason for rejecting the Fromm’s recommendation due to the face that it would serve no purpose to appoint a commanding officer to a ship to spend a few days sorting the ship out and getting things back into a routine and then out of know were relapses into a routine of AWOLs and LOA.

Inconclusion I would trust my fcomm due to appointing them at the start of the term due to their skills and/or experience and would trust that the above issues would be filtered out and checked for throughout the application process by the Fcomm in question.
