Nathan wanders into the spiffed out gymnasium. The stage is set, bunting decorating nearly every visible surface. Across the floor are set rows and rows of chairs. His eyes drift across them… all full. He shrugs and turns toward where he expects to see bleachers, but instead is a wall - the bleachers have not been pulled out.

He glances at the whispering crowd before reaching for the handle on one end of the assembly, and pulls.

SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Every head turns toward Nathan. He offers a tiny smile and a wave as he crosses to the handle on the other side.

SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE KER-clunk

The bottom row thuds into place and begins to pull on the row above it.

Great, he thinks, just 5 more rows now.

The location rotates, and this year it was awarded to a small town whose largest building is their 80-year-old high school gymnasium. Best they could do, really. But hey, they have an award-winning high school marching band (5th place!!!) providing music!
