Election Ship
Campaign HQ - Archer-Darrah - Same Page Plan
Good afternoon everyone I hope your days are going well for you.
For this first HQ post on our platform giving more detail to information Katy and I plan to do if elected we are calling this point ‘The Same Page Plan’.
To sum it up it is essentially from day 1 of our term beginning and getting our cabinet together. Katy and I will be communicating to all applicable members our clear expectations for managing the fleets and the ships within them. As well as the filing of reports, and ensuring command teams on the ships follow through with the expected awol/loa policies. Once we are sure everyone is correctly informed of these policies as defined in the latest version of FComm we will be directing them to ensure that command teams are equally on the same page and that if such are not followed then corrective action will be taken.
Now I know how doom/gloom that may sound to some, but hear me out. Getting everyone on the same page and enforcing the same standards of filing ship reports, managing their ship awols/loas, etc currently has a lot of things being all over the place. Too long too much slack or lack of enforcement was given up and down the chain of command on many ships, this then led to even more slacking and when people would try to enforce things it just made a lot of dram and confusion. So essentially are message is ‘we all start with a clean slate’ forget any past lack of enforcement by anyone and start fresh and work with our cabinet and fcomms to help ensure those standards are kept. This also obviously includes communication to everyone on how to handle things that often get overlooked, like ship profile updating, or working with the pdept/gmdept for filing open positions or accepting new members or not as well as what standards said ships have to meet to be qualified by say the gmdept or pdept to get a gmt or a new member who requests a mentor.
What I mean by these examples is if a ship is looking for a gm, but the only option is a gmt, but the ship is in poor shape and managed and/or missing core roles for department heads etc, then that is not a ship you want to put a training GM on cause it only will hurt the ship further and worse tank the prospective GM in trainings ability to succeed.
Getting everyone on the same page is not a big huge process, it simply requires that everyone in our community accepts the policies currently on the books that we have. If we can collective work together on this it should not be a process that can not be fixed ongoing for not only next term but for in the future.
Being on the same page also means mentoring and training new people to roles is consistent it also means that existing and even current or older members are also held to the same process and in this way there is not the impression of there being things people can ignore or the like. By having everyone on the same page it also lets us look more pleasing to prospective new members from the outside of the club looking through the site. Plus having a ‘same page’ process and communication lets everyone better able to help each other find things and answer questions.
The last part of this plan also means the hardest part. That being if ships can not have positioned filled or if command staff, cabinet or whatever positions can not be filled what then? Well for ships and fleets we look long and hard at consolidating them. As anyone will tell you I don’t personally like it and prefer keeping it as a last resort, but if people to fill such roles can not be found or step up then we are better at trimming things down then continuing as they are now with things as they are.
What I mean is lets say we cut two poorly performing ships. This then also means we cut a fleet and reassign the remaining ships to others. With consolidation Katy and I can focus on finding people we can personally approach to encourage to learn and grow. This could then mean that the cutting of a whole fleet is only a short term event. Getting people back into the idea that club politics or governance is not a big mystery or ‘tons of work’ or skill with being on the same page will let us then look at being able to build back up once the dust clears.
This is the basics of our first major term point. I will plan to give more simplified to the point break down later but I need to get back to work now.
