These questions are for anyone from any ticket.

1- There has been a lot of work happening in the academy over the last few months. Some of which has been discussed in command but most of which is happening within the academy staff and is only mentioned in the fleet reports. I’m delighted to see some of what we are trying to do is also priority for or part of your platforms. However only one person has come to ask me to update them for more detail on the current academy situation so can I ask, are you all aware of the work being done other than the command discussions?

Well, given we have been talking about this non-stop in DMs well before the election, pretty sure I’m up-to-speed on the Academy’s current work :)

2- While mentoring has appeared in the platform posts few of those running has actually commented on the current discussions in command on the mentoring programme changes we are suggesting. Do you have any opinions on these suggestions and are they different from your platform ideas?

I can’t say it better than our Platform Intro post: “In our post about mentorship, instead of writing about the current work the Academy is doing on specific mentorship program (work that we plan to fully support next term) we want to use our election platform to talk about…”

3- Given that there has been more focus on creating a structured curriculum for cadets which links more closely to the syllabus and a new members course/ cadet course created that is in draft to be vetted right now which includes the creation of biographies and plans to include a biography template creation document to be used as a stand alone, with a mentor for a new player or part of discussions IC with the academy ship CNS for a cadet to add to this can you elaborate on how your platform will dovetail with this work or will you plan to replace it with something different, if so can you give some more detail on that?

Nathan and I have no plans to interfere or replace the Academy’s work in this area, and plan to give the Academy the support it needs to bring its work to fruition. In fact, the Academy and CMM are probably the two areas we plan on supporting with day-to-day support.

4- There has been a lot of interest in adding courses to the catalogue we have currently, would you support this work some of which is already being done if elected?

Nathan and I would be leaving it to the discretion of the Academy Commandant.

5- How would you for see the academy working for all members at all levels of time and participation within the club not just new members or cadets.

Nathan and I have not turned our minds fully to that, although to some extent our Q&A idea (coming up one of our next posts) may be involving the Academy to some extent to be discussed, which while geared towards members two years or less, may also be of interest to more senior members. For something more focused for members beyond two years, Nathan and I would be relying on appropriate courses, unless the Academy staff have new ideas.
