Well, when it rains, it pours, it would seem. Along with getting a revision for our PC small-scale destroyer, we also have a Mark II variant for our NPC small-scale destroyer to check out! Yep, Jared decided to have another crack at this long-term support vessel, and this is the result. There might be a new Engineering Director by the time this review ends, but that’s no reason for me not to start it! The standard two-week window for reviews applies to this spec, as well as the usual review standards and protocols.

Designer’s Notes:
I am thrilled that the Avenger has been in service for almost twenty years. The USS Centurion continues to stand sentry over Oed V, while many others Avengers have appeared in countless sims as support ships. They have also seen use in GAMM’s Star Trek RPG on the old Delphiforums. In short, this design has far exceeded all of my hopes. Over the years I have discussed updating the Avenger several times, and finally decided that it was the perfect project to help me get back into the swing of things.

Change Log:
The Brazen-class has made me rethink the upgrade paths that I chose for the Avenger. I had wanted to stay true to the original design as much as possible, but also wanted to include upgrades that reflected the progress of time. This has remained my goal, but I have decided to refocus on the original design for the Avenger to ensure that the two ships complement each other instead of compete. Numerous changes have been made to the text throughout, mostly reflecting the upgrades made by the “Mark II Project.” I have snuck some of the neater ideas from the Midway-class in, and I have also removed some sections from the design as a tradeoff to keep the spec light. I have a tendency to turn these things into ship encyclopaedias and operations manuals…

The Centurion is such an important part of the defenses of Oed V, it is good that the design team have put together a mark 2 of the design. Those nasty and sneaky Vren are updating their capabilities and the Centurion, though venerable, is also vulnerable to their improved tactics. Fleet Captain Watt (a busy body Fleet Captain who visited Oed V to talk to the Lt Governor on Oed V) suggested at one stage to Fleet 6 Command that Oed V should get one or two of the retired Nimitz class vessels to assist in the defense of the colony. He was laughed out of the office and told in no uncertain terms that Oed V would not be getting one. When he then asked for a Mythology class instead, he was told that he was dreaming.

Anyway, I like the design, especially the SHINPADS acronym.

I’ll post a link to the review on the Oed V boards so that people there can come and review if they so desire. The Governor is a Civilian, so he’s unlikely to be on the ship, but those who play Starfleet officers on the planet might enjoy reviewing the specification.
