USCM - Chapter 1 Section 4 Variants - WIP
The next section is variants. By variant we mean the concept of variant as presented in Milwaukee rather then the variant idea of a differing loadout on the same space frame to achieve a different purpose. Mechanically Variants are tied to the concept of mass rather then function and can be utilised to provide a accentuate certain elements of a design in exchange for penalties in other areas.
*Note : Gravity classifications
1. Super
2. Heavy
3. Earth Like / Regular
4. Low
Light
A ship that has utilised less then 80% of the recommended mass for it’s particular space frame. Light ships gain a corresponding benefit in a combination of increased warp speeds, sublight maneuverability and/or decreased power consumption. A light variant can land on any planet with a gravity well rated below Super without specially designed systems.
Medium
A ship that has utilised between 80-100% of the space frame’s rated mass. Medium ships do not gain any benefit or suffer any penalty with regards to speed, maneuverability or power. If so designed can land on any planet with a gravity well rated regular and below.
Heavy
A ship that has utilised between 100-120% of the space frame’s rated mass. Heavy ships suffer corresponding penalties to a combination of warp, sublight maneuverability and power consumption. Heavy ships can not land on planets.
Tactical
A ship that has been optimized or has received additional technology further increasing the capabilities of its engines and weapons above and beyond an equivalent combat orientated vessel. Tactical ships suffer equivalent penalties to armour and shields
Medical
A ship optimized for humanitarian purposes, that has received additional technology increasing it’s shields and armor. Medical ships suffer equivalent penalties to weapons and engines.
