Ship Submission Review - Hamield Class ARU Explorer - 2-22-24

Posted by Vice Admiral Robert Archer (Engineering Director) in Ship Submission Review - Hamield Class ARU Explorer - 2-22-24
[snip]

Good afternoon everyone, here is my official review of the Hamield. Review still is open until the 22nd

HISTORY AND MISSION OVERVIEW

Project Hammer and Shield, initiated a decade ago in the year 2390, the ARU were identified as being best placed to manage the project being specialised in a anomaly detection and containment after the need for a specific ship line to facilitate their mission, it was also decided that they would be granted provisions to construct 4 ships under guidance from Starfleet Engineering Corp and would be subject to Quality Assurance by Utopia Planitia Auditors to ensure design and construction met starfleet standards, with the opportunity that if the initial roll out proved successful a further procurement and construction phase would be reviewed. During the early stages of this initiative, known as Leviathan, the ARU utilized a modified Mjolnir carrier. However, the foresight of the ARU leadership quickly recognized the necessity for a purpose-built design to meet the unique demands of their operations. This pivotal realization marked a significant turning point in the organization’s trajectory.

In 2392, the ARU unveiled the first prototype, showcasing the initial strides towards a Sol design that fully met the needs of the ARUs ongoing mission. By 2395, the Hamield-class had undergone successful deep space trials, and included the introduction of AMOS-I OS.

In 2397, the vessel played a pivotal role in Combined Fleet Maneuver Exercises showcasing its adaptability and operational ability. These accomplishments solidified the Hamield-class Starship as the flagship of the ARU’s fleet, excelling in Anomaly Containment, Advanced Research, Deep Space Exploration, and Escort Duties, and saw the introduction of the SpARTa system.

As the ARU enters the final year in the 24th Century the Hamield-class Starship has emerged as the culmination of relentless innovation and strategic planning. A fusion of ‘Ham’ denoting the robustness reminiscent of a hammer and ‘ield’ representing the protective attributes integral to its missions, epitomizes the essence of this formidable vessel a brain child of the ARU, improved by the specialists from Utopia Planitia and built by Starfleet Engineering Corps.

== Only thing I have to add here was already covered in another one or two reviews. Only other addition I would say is implying the ARU has its own ‘fleet’ as a seperate arm to Starfleet. Sort of how S-31 in Discovery TOS had their own gaggle of ships. I’m not against this persay for the sack of lore, but a little expansion of the ARU giving some basics on their separate operational element given what they would and how would be in order. I would also say limiting the total separate ships to maybe 5 tops.

Mission Profile

Anomaly Containment
Advanced Research
Deep Space Exploration
Combined Fleet Maneuvers (ARU)
Escort Duties

== Defining what combined fleet maneuvers (aru) are would be good. Either that or dropping the ARU part and I assume this means combing missions with Starfleet ships vs ARU ships.

STRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION

The Hamield-class boasts a distinctive design featuring a large outer oval saucer section seamlessly connected to an arrow-like substructure. This saucer section integrates four mirrored, angled nacelles on each side, positioned towards the rear of the saucer and serving as the sole connecting points to the overhead modular system. Each nacelle is equipped with a pointed ‘fin,’ strategically enhancing the ship’s aerodynamic capabilities. Positioned at the same level as the saucer section, these fins are angled to optimize aerodynamics, minimizing the ship’s profile and affording it superior speed compared to other vessels of similar size.

== As mentioned elsewhere what purpose do these fins have? Does not seem it has atmospheric flight so no need for such. In addition if a sleeker profile is needed then based on your images a compact combat profile is not really given here.

Connected to the saucer section is a cylindrical main body, forming the ‘tail’ that extends below the nacelles and aligns directly beneath the rear of the saucer section. The arrow sub-section houses the deflector dish, protruding between two robust pylons within its reinforced shell. Situated below the overhead modular system, there exists a significant gap, and the modular system itself is linked to the nacelles by two flat, hollowed (yet reinforced) supporting pylons.

The ship’s hull armor is composed of a 5cm high-density duranium alloy and plastics, creating a composite hull. Notably, the vessel is equipped with kinetic reactive armor. Deviating from conventional increased hull layering systems, engineers opted for a reduction in overall size and weight while preserving multiple decks. The reintroduction of kinetic armor, reminiscent of technologies from and beyond the 21st century, proves highly effective. Upon impact, the kinetic reactive armor disperses the force outward, minimizing damage. This innovative approach is particularly instrumental against kinetic weapons like torpedoes, sometimes completely nullifying their effects. Consequently, the Hamield-class can endure prolonged durations without shields, with an air-gapped hull layering system proving efficacious against energy weapons, reducing further damage. However, it is worth noting that after extended combat, the exposed inner hull of the Hamield-class becomes vulnerable.

Due to its unique mission, Starbase Hades is the home of the construction, the Starbase houses five dry docks and two large anti-grave chambers allowing for construction of the ships of which so far two have been built.

== More lore here, I like that. I would suggest perhaps giving some basics of where Starbase Hades is located in relation to STFs different fleet make ups. GM Dept has a STF custom map that would be useful in this regard.

== So this kinetic armor is not all different then how Ablative armor functions. Perhaps as an alternative to this you could make use of an armor system similar to what we say in future Janeways timeline in Voyager’s final episode? In this case not as strong as that armor, but using the more duranium plates like above.

== Also this would tone down a bit of the more combative/aggressive stance the spec gives off to me in general. Making it less a combat ship and more akin to its exploration role (but capable of combat if needed)

== Lastly elsewhere, you mentioned separation ability. This needs to be listed here and where the split happens and roughly how long it takes to perform for next draft

SCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING SYSTEMS

The Hamield Class incorporates an array of sensor technology strategically positioned to cover forward, rear, and unilateral perspectives. The primary set comprises Type VIII Scientific sensors, with the most potent cluster featuring seven forward-facing long-range subspace sensors directly situated behind the main deflector dish. This arrangement optimally spans a range of 3.72 light years for high-resolution operations, extending to 13 light years for low-resolution tasks.

== Placeholder for image

Complementing this, a rear-facing Type-VI triangular formation enhances the ship’s sensory capabilities. Positioned to the rear of the overhead module, this sensor cluster provides an optimal resolution range of 2.6 light years and a reduced resolution range of up to 8.4 light years. Remarkably, this cluster operates seamlessly alongside the main sensor module.

== So question why two different systems? Why not just one or the other? Again I’m not against it persay, but the rear facing seems pointless to me. As it reads now you’re saying that the ship’s forward arcing sensors are more powerful but then that same stronger system does not aim aft. Leaving the ship open to ambush or other problems from the rear arcs. Either way I would like a reasoning for it please.

The computer system is anchored by a quad-isolinear computer core which supports the use of the developed but not implemented OS system AMOS-I. ARU research and developers decided to reattempt the use of an alternative operating system as they felt that AMOS was a far more functional operating system compared to LCARS and that the steep learning curve identified was a meer attempt to continue to contract the use of MAJEL and LCARS. AMOS also performed 33.6% more efficiently than LCARS and MAJEL making it an easy choice of OS for the ARU, and additionally a training package has been installed into the OS for personnel to learn how to adapt.

== So ‘quad isolinear’ is not really a term to use. By lore we got isolinear and bio-neural data transmission setups (aka the cpu/network) and for data STORAGE just isolinear. For reference check the mythology class or some other newer designs.

== Now one thing I am open to the idea of is that quad is referencing say something like ‘quantum-isolinear’ or something similar sounding (ala like quantum computing, though arguably trek already does this) if so lets hash that out here, otherwise just reduce it to isolinear/bio-neural or a combination thereof.

== Or is the ‘quad’ supposed to reference saying you have FOUR isolinear computer cores? please clarify

As a precaution against potential threats, a separate air-gapped backup consisting of 3 Isolinear Data Cores is in place, designed to thwart enemy electromagnetic and cyber attacks. The transition between primary and secondary cores, during optimal operating conditions, is executed with remarkable speed, taking a mere 500 Nanoseconds.

To enhance versatility and situational awareness, the ship features a holo emitter system throughout its entirety. This system facilitates the deployment of the latest Federation Emergency hologram crew, ensuring the ship remains equipped with the most up-to-date and standard emergency response capabilities.

== So in canon lore there are no ‘emergency holo crew’ presently beyond the EMH system. STF has toyed with the idea of holo-crew but so far no one has done it. I’m willing to accept a tech submission for consideration with some restrictions obviously to avoid replacing the organic meatbags we all play :P for next draft I would say rename this to the EMH’s and/or remove them

ARU ships also come as standard with the Emission Tracking System which enables the better function of sensors when tracking anomalies.

== So the ETS is for cloaked ships. Given no where do you define really what an ‘anomaly’ is its hard to say if this makes sense. If an anomaly is something weird and strange like say an angry energy based space child then the ETS doesnt make sense really. For next draft I would suggest removing it

WARP PROPULSION SYSTEM

The Hamield-class features a symmetrical arrangement of four nacelles, with each pair serving as a mirror image of its counterpart. Positioned at the same level as the ship’s saucer section, these nacelles act as the exclusive points of contact for the overhead module, firmly fixed in place and certified as subspace safe.

Empowered by the cutting-edge Class-IX Warp propulsion system, the Hamield-class demonstrates remarkable speed capabilities. Its cruising speed of warp 7 surpasses that of most vessels of comparable size, thanks to the innovative modification of hull plating. This modification allows the ship to achieve a maximum sustainable velocity of 9.6, with the capacity to reach a peak warp of 9.975 for a duration of 12 hours. For emergency scenarios, the Hamield-class can push its boundaries further, reaching an extraordinary warp speed of 9.985, albeit strictly for temporary and critical situations. The fusion of advanced warp technology and modified hull design positions the Hamield-class as a standout in its class, delivering unprecedented speed and maneuverability.

== So to put this in comparison, the class-9 was first introduced on voyager in the 2370s. Currently STF’s in game year is 2400 almost just under 30 years later. It wouldn’t be ‘cutting edge’ anymore by any means. Currently our top end warp core is the Class-10 though I am working in the SSSF and MNP rewrite to expand this. For now I would suggest rewording this section is you plan to keep the class-9

== Lastly for the emergency speed of 9.985 please in next draft put in a time length It should be less then the 12 hour rating, say no more then an hour or three tops

IMPULSE PROPULSION SYSTEM

The primary impulse engines of the Hamield-class are strategically positioned behind the arrowhead of the main saucer section, ensuring efficient propulsion. Notably, each section of the vessel is equipped with its own impulse capability, facilitating swift module changes. In the oval section, the impulse engine is located at the rear of the module, while both the arrow and tail sections house their respective impulse engines to the rear of the saucer section. The Overhead module also incorporates two impulse engines at its rear.

== So for next draft, give us an exact count of how many engines and their positioning plus deck placement either here or for sure in the deck layout below

During separation, however, the vessel experiences a substantial reduction in impulse speed, limited to 0.15c. This deliberate design ensures stability and control during the process of modular detachment.

Under normal operating conditions, the Hamield-class achieves an impulse speed of 0.25c. This optimal speed is attained in favorable circumstances, showcasing the vessel’s capability for efficient sublight travel. The integration of multiple impulse engines across various sections underscores the ship’s adaptability and responsiveness in diverse operational scenarios.

== Ok so .25c is fine, and your wording implies it is highly maneuverable. I am a little confused however, why the ship is forced to put on the breaks in seperation to .15c? To explain the Enterprise-D did a saucer separation at Warp 9.9 in 2360s multiple times and the saucer was able to safely drop from warp and proceed on impulse under its own power. I would suggest removing the .15c cap for next draft. Alternately you could reword that part to say that separation can be performed ‘on the move’ at sublight speeds up to .15c without any difficulty but higher sublight speeds or warp speeds still are ‘at extreme risk’ to quote 2360s data.

TACTICAL SYSTEMS

Defensive Shields

The Hamield-class relies on advanced shield technology as a primary defence mechanism against incoming energy weapons, featuring a formidable Type-XI Shield Emitter. This emitter boasts a remarkable capacity, capable of generating a maximum 2419MW Max Graviton load, with an impressive Max dissipation rate of 6.57 x 10^5kWs. The strategic placement of Shield Emitter One forward of the oval section enhances the vessel’s frontal defensive capabilities.

Additionally, the overhead module is equipped with its own shield for when operating detached, which consists of a Type-IV defensive shield array. This array exhibits a capacity, generating a maximum graviton load of 537MWs and a commendable maximum dissipation rate of 1.46x10^5kWs. Shield Emitter Two is strategically positioned in the center of the Tail section, further fortifying the ship’s defences.

== To clarify for next draft, is the type-11 shield system for the entire ship? and is the type-4 only for the overhead module? ala the type-4 couldnt be used to protect the ship entirely when attached? Clarify on this would be good

Phaser Systems

Dorsal
4 Type X Topside Phaser arrays
Two bowed phaser banks on the inner dorsal saucer section providing 180 degrees firing arcs port and starboard (125 Emitters each)
Two slightly curved diagonal phaser banks on the outer dorsal saucer section providing 70 degrees firing arcs port and starboard (75 Emitters Each)

3 Type VIII Phaser arrays
One half circle phaser bank on the middle dorsal sauce section providing 320 degrees firing arc fore, port and starboard (250 Emitters)
Two diagonal phaser banks situated on top of the overhead module providing 70 degrees firing arcs port and starboard (75 Emitters Each)

Ventral
5 Type VIII Phaser Arrays
Two Diagonal phaser banks on the outer ventral saucer section providing 45 Degrees firing arcs one Fore to Port and one Fore to Starboard (50 Emitters Each)
One V shaped phaser bank on the inner ventral saucer section providing 180 degrees firing arc Fore, Port and Starboard. (150 Emitters)
Two slightly curved phaser banks located on the ventral tail providing 30 degrees forcing arc Port and Aft and Starboard and Aft (75 Emitters Each)

Port
1 Type VIII Phaser Arrays
One phaser bank committed 45 degrees to Port along the beam of the ship between the dorsal and ventral saucer section. (100 Emitters)

Starboard
1 Type VIII Phaser Arrays
One phaser bank committed 45 degrees to starboard along the beam of the ship between the dorsal and ventral saucer section. (100 Emitters)

== So you need to clean up your wording on here Arrays/strips are what we see on all TNG era vessels. Phaser BANKS are what we usually see on the older TMP/TOS era phasers. While you can mix and match, I would say there isnt really a purpose. So for next draft change banks to arrays/strips

[snip]

== No problems I found with the torpedo systems atm

COMMAND AND SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Main Engineering

Deck 27, 28 and 29 Make up Main Engineering, the Warp core is situated in the upper two decks and has a warp core ejection via a bottom tube. The Engineering department is larger than a typical ship due to the increase in power output created by the Warp core and computer core. The Upper two decks are hollowed out allowing viewing through deck 27 to deck 28, the floor for the catwalks on deck 28 Main engineering are reinforced glass similar to the glass used on the bridge and viewing deck. Main engineering Lower has several jeffery tube access points and is considered the hub “All road lead to “Rome.” Main engineering also has an external access hatch above the top of the warp drive. When the overhead module is attached to the ship there is a matching hatch at the bottom of the module’s warp drive. The two hatches work as a lock and key mechanism. This allows the Hamield class to add the warp nacelles of the module to the main warp drive to increase power. This setup also allows for the module to detach and work as a separate ship when needed.

== Jeffrey tube should be Jeffries Tube/Tubes

== Also you note that the module has its own warp core, but above in the warp section you only list one warp core so either you need to edit this section or edit the warp section to match

The Hamield also introduced the ‘machine shop’ this resource would allow the crews of any Hamield class engineering sections to functionally build containment suits on ship without the need to return to Starbase Hades for retrofitting.

Reference URL: https://www.star-fleet.com/library/bookshelf/tm/machineshop.html

== The Hamield was not he first ship to use or introduce the machine shop. The Pendragon class in the mid 2370s was. So this needs to be reworded.

== Also you say containment ‘suits’ but I think you mean containment ‘units’. Yet again though its hard to say because how defining an ‘anomaly’ is/what is hard to say

Main Science

The Main Science Labs sprawl across Decks 21, 22, and 23, serving as the central hub for scientific exploration and research onboard. These multifaceted facilities encompass a spectrum of specialized laboratories, including astrometrics, sensor analysis, and programmable probe storage, all equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and technology. Additionally, the labs are dedicated to anomaly research, providing specialized equipment and resources for the study and containment of various anomalous phenomena encountered during exploration missions. From conducting intricate astronomical observations to analyzing sensor data and programming advanced probes for anomaly detection, these labs play a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of the universe and ensuring the safety and success of each mission undertaken by the vessel.

== Again what IS an anomaly? Its hard to review whether this fits without knowing/defining what a general ‘anomaly’ is

Main Security

Security is located on Deck 6 due to its access to the ships weapon maintenance systems and control platforms, the ship is equipped with a Brig and over spill Brig capable of housing up to eight separate cells or one combined cell and 4 small cells. There are two armouries which house a large and varying number of small arms weapons; however when a Marine detachment is assigned to the ship, armoury two is then under the control of that detachment.

== So 1st for next draft list having Type 2 hand phasers (numbers or such), as well as any Type-3 rifles (only for security etc). If you’re adding any other stf specific weapon suites for personnel (ala the BADASS systems or other such stuff list it here, how many, etc).

== That said how many marines could be on this ship? Given its not meant as a combat ship I would think not more then a squad or so in size would be sufficient. Also given above we’re kinda implying the ARU is separate from normal Starfleet would these marines be from Starfleet or ARU? either way to me it seems a little over the top. I’m kind of leaning to suggesting they get nixed, and instead have the ARU security department be more heavily trained then say normal starfleet. Perhaps including the BADASS suite in limited numbers for up to a squad in size

Medical Systems

Decks 18, 19 and 20 make up the main bulk of the ship’s medical contingent, the ship has two sickbays, medical labs, and a morgue. The medical locations are able to offer the full range of medical treatment from basic health to obstetrics to specific types of surgery and long term care, but on a small scale.

The ship’s two EMH Mark IV programs can also be run in these locations. Holo Emitters are also placed around the ship to allow the EMH program to operate anywhere there are casualties. EMH is programmed to work only in the triage area of the ship.

== So this wording is conflicting, you say the EMH can work anywhere but then right after they can only work in triage areas. Which is it?

Primary Sickbay Five surgical suites with the latest in surgical frames, 2 long term patient recovery rooms, 6 biobeds in the main medical bay. The CMO’s office with the ability to monitor all medical locations in both sickbay, and head nurses station is also located here. As well as medical labs. A small mess hall and ‘overnight’ quarters for medical staff.

Secondary Sickbay (Also known as overflow sickbay and actually larger for combat situations) 5 biobeds in the main medical bay, 5 ICU suites, 3 surgical suites with the latest in surgical frames, 5 long term patient recovery rooms. This is mostly a nurses station unless the primary sickbay is full or the ship goes to yellow or red alert. A small office is located here with food replicators. This sickbay is also attached to the ship’s triage area and is responsible for maintaining the medical equipment and medications for both areas.

== You note triage area being separate, so it sounds like a special empty room only used for emergencies, is that right? If so how many could it hold? I might suggest looking at the Mythology class and/or Nitinggale https://www.star-fleet.com/core/command/edept/posts/117818/ for inspiration and better wording

UTILITY SYSTEMS

The Hamield class comes with one large primary cargo bay, though smaller cargo bays can be found around the ship, particularly clustered within the engineering decks. Each cargo bay is equipped with a Cargo transporter and industrial replicator.

== Define what decks the bays are on please

There are Two Tractor beams operated on the Hamield class, one Aft and one Fore, the main tractor beam emitters are capable of handling a mass of 7,500,000 metric tonnes at less than 1,000 meters. For a mass of one metric ton at the same delta-v, the effective range is 20,000 kilometers. The main tractor emitters use a pair of 16 Megawatt graviton polarity sources, for a total of 32 Megawatt graviton displacement power.

Transporters are sporadically situated through the ship with a total of six normal functioning transporter rooms, two emergency transporters, a cargo transporter for each cargo bay.

== Again define where and what decks for transporter rooms, ranges as per SSSF also need inclusion

[snip]

== No problem with turbolift stuff

Anomaly containment suites

Anomaly containment suites aboard the Hamield are specialized areas designed to secure and manage potentially hazardous or anomalous entities, objects, or phenomena encountered during space exploration. These suites are crucial for ensuring the safety of the ship’s crew and the integrity of the vessel itself.

The suites are equipped with devices specifically designed for securing, quarantining, and researching anomalies. These units may vary based on the nature of the anomaly, ranging from energy fields to containment pods with adjustable parameters.

== So ok we got a definition somewhat of what an ‘anomaly’ is. So let me ask this, lets say the ARU came upon an entity like the Q? Not quite as all powerful but still potentially dangerous. But in their ‘energy/physical form’ they are say the size of a borg cube. How would these containment units function if at all? I’m confused I guess how the ship is to contain study and deal with such things if that thing is bigger than the containment unit?

Environmental Controls:

[snip]

== No problems here though I may revisit this with more info from above

Forcefields:

[snip]

== No problems here though again I may revisit this with more info from above

Separate Power Generation:

Isolated Power Systems:

Anomaly containment suites often have their own dedicated power generation systems. This ensures that, in the event of a ship-wide power failure, the containment systems remain operational to prevent any breach or escape of the anomaly.

Containment Devices and Equipment:

Specialized Containment Units:

The suites are equipped with devices specifically designed for capturing, containing, and studying anomalies. These units may vary based on the nature of the anomaly, ranging from energy fields to containment pods with adjustable parameters.

Sensor Arrays:

High-tech sensors are installed to monitor and analyze the anomaly’s behaviour. This data is crucial for understanding the anomaly and developing effective containment strategies.

Isolated Communication Channels:

Containment suites have dedicated communication systems to allow specialists to coordinate and share information without risking cross-contamination or interference with the ship’s main communication network.

Automated Response Systems:

In the event of a containment breach or other emergency, automated protocols are in place to seal off the affected area, activate emergency forcefields, and alert the ship’s security and medical teams.

Research and Observation Facilities:

Containment suites often include laboratory spaces for researchers to conduct experiments and studies on the contained anomaly while maintaining a safe distance.

== So I feel like all of this above should be condensed into the anomaly suite section for flow and easier reference in next draft

CREW SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Emergency Shelters

These shelters were introduced due to the size of the ship and the concern that to traverse the ship to reach a considered safe location was not guaranteed, these shelters have reinforced bulkheads and emergency force field generators to protect the inhabitants and are able to sustain life up to 72 hours (max occupancy 50 Personnel optimal occupancy 30) disconnected from any main power. These rooms have 15 bunks personnel will have to stagger their sleeping pattern) and come supplied with emergency rations for 30 personnel up to 72 hours, hydration packs for up to 72 hours for 30 personnel and basic life saving equipment and medical supplies, there are no weapons held as standard in the shelters as these are predominantly for the use during combat to preserve life of non-duty or civilian personnel. Each Shelter also comes with an emergency broadcasting unit which operates on the UHF frequencies often unhindered by modern electronic interference allowing communication between shelters and an aid to locate survivors. In extreme conditions these shelters can survive atmospheric reentry and collision.

== So I’m assuming these are similar to say the Mythology class’s civilian support/emergency shelters. So first off you need to list the decks they are on here. Also these are pretty dang big! Not to mention going off your wording they are like massive emergency escape pods if i’m reading this right? If thats the case do they ‘eject’ from the ship like these pods (which on their own have all this but only hold about 6-12 or so some people and have short term impulse/warp engine/thrusters). If they dont eject from the ship then there’s no purpose of broadcasting. Conversely if they DO eject then this is a major chunk of the ship depending on how many there are in the ship and where. Please clarify for next draft or talk to me on this

Crew Recreation Systems

The Hamield-class boasts an impressive array of holodecks and holosuites, providing diverse recreational opportunities for the crew.

== Again how many, and where and what types?

[snip]

== No problem with 13-Forward atm

Size: Extravagant and spacious.
Amenities: Offering a private office or meeting space, a separate sleeping area, advanced communication systems, personalized services, and a bathroom with both tub and shower. For VIP dining preferences, a high-end food replicator may be available.

== So for all the above quarters, where are they? Also in what way are they spacious etc? I suggest you go look at some other ships in how they describe the CO/XO quarters

Anomaly Quarters:

Size: Variable and tailored for unique situations.
Amenities: Featuring a sleeping area, bathroom, and a specialized food replicator catering to the anomaly’s needs.

== Wouldnt an anomaly quarter be IN the module? again either way list where its at etc

AUXILIARY SPACECRAFT SYSTEMS

The main vessel houses four standard personal shuttlecraft equipped with limited warp capability, two runaboauts within its primary shuttlebay, along with four worker-bees and one Captain’s yacht.

Shuttles

Runabout

Worker Bees

Captain Yacht

== As someone else mentioned dont list the names just the Type of Aux craft and number the ship carries. You also need to list how many shuttlebays it has and where they are on the ship for next draft

[snip]

== No issues atm for the defense/offense listings

DECK LAYOUT

== So I’ll dig into more detail of the deck layout once we get a better set of descriptions in next or further drafts

Overhead Module: ARU Decks

== So I forgot to ask this before when working with you. Why the ABC lettering? Why not just #’s with something like 1-M, etc?

SHIPS OF CLASS
Ships of this class are named as mythical sea creatures or monsters based on ancient Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Norse Mythologies from Earth’s culture.

USS Leviathan NCC-90407-A, Completed and in Service
USS Kraken - NCC-90408, Completed and in Service
USS Jörmungandr - NCC-90409, Completed, Final Shakeout Flight
USS Cetus - NCC-90410, Partially constructed, in Hades Dry Dock
USS Tiamat - NCC-90411, Planned, Pending Review
USS Lusca - NCC-904012, Planned, Pending Review

== So you can nix the description of their status, or leave it in either is fine. Though I would say based on the history section you limit it to no more then 5 ships based on what I said above

CONCLUSION

[snip]

== No issues on the conclusion atm

Nice work so far Jake, I know how it must feel to have your design torn up with corrections or clarification. But you’ve done good work so far. My main concerns are making sure it fits proper submission layouts and getting a handle on what and how anomalies operate in relation to the ship spec etc.

Robert Archer EDir

Hi Rob!

Thanks for such a detailed response! I’ll endeavour to clarify and make changes as per yours and others questions and suggestions.

However in this first instance please see this as an explanation as to what an anomaly may be, and to answer some questions particularly around how we may contain them. That is not something the ship design will aim to specify as that will all be determined in character and solutions created then. Also please see the Leviathans MOTD as this contains some information, your suggestion about five ships is fine however since the leviathans conception there has always been 17 plus starbase hades (based on the original MOTD created by Sharon), I did have a map somewhere but after Sharon left some information and documents are no longer accessible, some files are associated to the Levi’s chats on STF.

Once the deadline has passed I will answer each point or make the changes.

Exert from the ARU document created by Jay Luistro 2020.

_Space anomalies are hard to categorize and their numbers implies a wide arrange of classes and types of anomalies. So a simple classification system helps reducing chaos.

While space anomalies are usually well studied by normal research vessels, special objects that causes space anomalies are considered Type Einstein items. They range from little rocks with weird blackhole properties to entire planets capable of eating entire systems. Artifacts and planet-found articles are considered Type Newton items and are to be considered weapons. Living beings anomalies, instead, covers the majority of the anomalies recovered by the ARU (circa 68%) and are divided in Type Darwin and Type Curie anomalies. While Darwin are made of organic molecules, usually Curie living anomalies are made of non-organic molecules and compounds. Type Feynman items are all subspace anomalies found in our Galaxy without distinction between living or non-living being.
All anomalies are categorized within 4 Threat Conditions starting from the bottom:
Blue (inert), Green (safe), Yellow (risky anomaly), Abell (hazardous anomaly)

All anomalies are contained and secured in special built-chambers. Such chambers are often temporary ones until anomalies are transferred to the Starbase Containment Compound (SCC). While on voyage, all personnel not involved with experimentation and containment must not access the areas of interest or use LCARS Access Point throughout the whole ship. Only the Captain, the XO and the whole corp of research and special security, are allowed (within certain levels of accessibility) to use LCARS furnished consoles and access restricted areas off-limits to normal crew. It may happen that during emergencies that Medical and Engineering personnel may enter these areas for repairs and first AID.

Research procedures are conducted behind protected rooms or directly inside the chamber. It is to notice that no Research Team must approach an anomaly without an armed escort. The CSO is responsible to maintain its research corps busy and at the same time it is responsible to govern the research areas of the ship as facility director._
