Good morning everyone, today after a bit of private review James Sinclair and David Shotton come to us with their submission of a Klingon Warship the Kavaar’ton. The ship design is for the current 2390s+ time period of the main fleet. The review is open from 8-23-23 until 9-6-23 until noon US eastern time. Given the non-federation standard equipment for flavor some leeway beyond normal MNP allowances are being made with my final approval and sign off. Any questions let me know.

HISTORY AND MISSION OVERVIEW
In 2396, a significant change happened in the millenia-old governmental makeup of the Klingon Empire’s governing body. Due to the escalated tensions within the Klingon government due to the discovery of both a new legitimate Nobel House (House Duroc) and their indisputable proof that House Juuv, a long and tenured High Noble House had betrayed both them and a previously long-forgotten Klingon deity, Kavaar’ton the Builder, the Klingon High Council announced that as part of the reparations to the thousands-years debt owed to House Duroc the next class of Klingon warships would be named in the diety’s honor. It was soon decided, however, that the wait for that would drag out the reinstatement of House Duroc’s holdings and further exacerbate things with the already volatile House; so it was agreed that an upgrade to an existing design would be more advantageous. As the Empire’s shipyards were already in the process of such a task, it was decided that the newest generation of battleship- an upgraded design of the decades old Negh’Var warship- would be named the Kavaar’ton class Warship, and was commissioned in 2398.
STRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION
Built upon the existing hull of the Negh’Var, the Kvaar’ton class appears visually as it’s predecessor does: the bridge module is separated from the rest of the vessel via a long ‘neck’ that widens out at the far end, flaring out into the forward-swept ‘wings’ of the vessel which house the warp nacelles on raised supports and significant supporting infrastructure; as well as the ship’s impulse engines. Below the primary hull are two large weapon pods; and a large triangular superstructure is located on the aft dorsal section. The standard approach of making the ship look like a bird-of prey is not lost in the design, and even the paint schematic of the class features prominent ‘feathers’ painted on the dorsal and ventral wing sections.
Construction of the Kavaar’ton is where the real difference between it and it’s predecessor lies. Incorporating the House Duroc philosophy of ‘the best for the job at hand, and damned be tradition if it is not the best we can do’, and their penchant for utilizing non-Klingon tech and personnel ; the Kavaar’ton class is the first in the Klingon fleet to utilize Transporter Welding in it’s construction. The Kavaar’ton utilizes many Federation-based approaches in it’s construction, bending them to the Klingon sense of ‘Might Makes Right’. Interlocking tritanium / duranium trusses support the double-hull made of the same alloy, each hull being 10cm thick. Additionally, 8cm thick ablative armor coating covers the hull and can easily withstand fire from Type 8 phasers and disruptors of equal intensity where there is enough structural support to allow for the armor. An additional 6cm of the ablative coating covers such critical areas such as the bridge, most of the nacelles, shuttle bay doors, window coverings, and external hatches.
10cm thick ablative armor plates inserts are fitted into the superstructure at specific points inside the vessel, preventing singularly powerful shots from piercing through the hull in sections that allow for the plates to be transporter welded into place. This additional protection centers around torpedo bays and magazines, matter / anti-matter fuel storage, Engineering, Armories, and Structural Integrity and Inertial Dampening Field generators.
SCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING SYSTEMS
The Kavaar’ton is equipped with a standard Hoc’h sensor package and is mounted on shock-protective mountings. They are protected by the above-mentioned ablative armor coating. The system is a rough equivalent to the Federation Type X Sensor array; allowing for Hi-Res detection at 5 LY and Low-Res at 17 LY. The ship is also equipped with the newest generation of Emission Tracking System to allow for faster and more accurate targeting during combat.
Unlike it’s predecessor (and taking a lesson from the battle-tested Pendragon-class Federation ship), the Kavaar’ton class utilizes three computer cores to allow for 100% redundancy. Utilizing a system similar to LCARS- but with greater priority given to things like speed, energy consumption and distribution, and maintenance needs- the triple redundant system allows for the massive warship to be managed effectively and efficiently.
Another step away from the Negh’Var is the incorporation of a state-of-the-art electronics warfare suite capable of allowing the Kavaar’ton to engage the enemy in the cyber arena as well as the physical one.
The ship carries no kind of ‘holo-crew’ as the Klingons deem them ‘soulless’ and therefore a bad omen on a fighting vessel.
WARP PROPULSION SYSTEM
With two warp nacelles, one under each fixed ‘wing’, the Kavaar’ton houses the newest generation Jatlh (Holy Sun) warp core, located in the Main Engineering section of the ship on decks 20, 21, and 22. With an output approximating a Cochrane rating of 7,952+, a standard cruising speed of warp 7.5, 12-hour sustainable speed of 9.995, and a maximum sustainable cruising speed of warp 9.9; the Kavaar’ton is faster than it’s predecessor without trading off firepower or damage resistance.
IMPULSE PROPULSION SYSTEM
The Impulse Propulsion System (IPS) of the *Kavaar’ton class consists of four engines located in the rear of the main body of the vessel on decks 18 & 19, and decks 23 & 24. Maximum impulse speed for the ship is 0.31c and it can accelerate and decelerate quickly; but the massive vessel is incapable of making the tighter turns and maneuvers associated with smaller vessels and craft.
TACTICAL SYSTEMS
Defensive Shields
The Kavaar’ton is equipped with both deflector shields and a cloaking device, which cannot be used simultaneously. The deflector shields are capable of withstanding multiple direct hits from phasers, disruptors, and torpedo attacks before collapsing. Powered by an auxiliary power supply dedicated to shields alone (although capable of being tapped for additional power to other systems with physical connections being made), the shields of the Kavaar’ton class are some of the most powerful on any starship; equivalent to the Type XIII typically reserved for smaller starbases. With a maximum Graviton Load of 3,680 and a dissipation rate of 9.79x10^5, the shields are capable of withstanding significant damage.
Energy Weapons
The main weapons of the Kavaar’ton and her predecessor are their two Mark XVIII Disruptor Cannons, one located under each wing. The most powerful mobile weapon of any Alpha-Quadrant ship with an optimal output of 18.4 MW, they are capable of firing only in a very limited forward arc of 12° with a range of 175,000km and are intended to be used against the heavy shielding of large space installations, planetary arrays, and fixed defensive systems; as well as for planetary bombardment.
To make up for the small arc of the Cannons, the Kavaar’ton is equipped with 22 Mark XII Disruptor cannons distributed across the hull, each with an optimal output of 7.1 MW and allowing for 360 degree engagement with a Maximum Effective Range of 325,000 km. While only a fraction as powerful as the Mark XVIII, the Mark XII is at least as powerful as the Federation’s Type XI phaser array.
Torpedo Systems
The Kavaar’ton has 8 triple-fire photon torpedo tubes: two forward facing under the bridge module, two forward facing under each wing, and two facing aft. The ship’s standard load-out is 750 photon torpedoes; although it is rumored that the vessel is in possession of quantum torpedoes as well. The ship also carries 50 probes that can be configured to mission-specific parameters.
Electronic Warfare Suite
Unlike previous Klingon vessels, the Kavar’ton is not limited to physical combat. With the addition of a dedicated EWS, the Kavaar’ton is capable of cyber-warfare as well. Additionally, the system itself is not connected to the ship’s computer system, having a dedicated core of its own, albeit much smaller than the main computer cores. This is to prevent the system from being breached and allowing access to the ship itself.
COMMAND AND SUPPORT SYSTEMS
Bridge
Located in the ‘head’ of the vessel, the bridge of the Kavaar’ton class is at first glance set up like a traditional Klingon ship with a raised dais in the middle where the Commanding Officer or the OIC on duty sits and can look down on the subordinates around them. The chair swivels in a full 360 degree arc, and has access to all of the data from any station on the bridge. Three stations - helm, weapons, and operations - are located in the fore of the bridge in front of which is a large viewscreen. To the left of the CO’s dais (if facing forward) are two engineering stations allowing for multiple tasks to be completed simultaneously. To the right is a communications and science station. Behind the CO’s dias is a security station and the doors to the turbolift. Unlike most Klingon vessels, each station is equipped with a chair. Like most Klingon ships, each station has a small arms locker containing a disruptor pistol and a dagger. There is also a door off to the far right between the security and communications stations that leads to a War Room that is used for battle planning.
War Room
The room adjacent to the Bridge, the War Room is a dedicated space for planning and coordinating military operations. Containing multiple holoprojectors and tactical displays, it can seat 10 with a maximum capacity of 25.
Main Engineering
Main Engineering is the heart of the vessel, and as such is located in middle decks 16-25 and towards the aft of the ship. Here is housed the Warp Core and two of the three computer cores. There is also a rudimentary bridge configuration allowing for basic control of the ship.
Armories
Armories lay scattered throughout the ship, with the Main armory and Security located on Deck 10. Additional armories are on deck 3, 14, 19, 26, 33 and 39. Each armory other than the Main contains enough disruptor rifles, daggers, and bat’leths for a full company (150 individuals)
Arena
Part exercise yard, part disciplinary area. Located on Deck 14, the Arena is where the crew practices hand-to-hand combat and ‘works out disagreements’. Last one standing is right.
Forge
Combination blacksmith and weapon-modification machine shop. Here is where blades are sharpened and pistols are modified.
UTILITY SYSTEMS
Cargo Bays
The cargo bays for the ship are located on decks 31 and 32 at the aft of the vessel. Each is equipped with a standard cargo transporter systems.
Tractor Beam
Located below the Deflector Array, the Kavaar’ton comes equipped with a standard tractor beam with an effective range of 20,000km. Efficiency is dependent upon the mass of the object being pulled.
Transporter Systems
As part of the design, the Kavaar’ton is equipped to support large scale troop-landing operations. To aid in that mission, there are 15 transporter rooms throughout the ship, each capable of transporting up to ten individuals at a time.
Communication Systems
The Kavaar’ton is equipped with a standard subspace communications array capable of closed-band and encoded transmissions and decryption of incoming comms.
Cloaking System
Like it’s predecessor, the Kavaar’ton is equipped with a cloaking device identical to the ones in use on other Klingon vessels.
CREW SUPPORT SYSTEMS
Medical Facilities
The Kavaar’ton houses one main sickbay on Deck 12 with the capability of handling 85 injured at a time; and one emergency triage facility on deck 14 adjacent to the Arena. In Mass Casualty scenarios, the Arena can be converted into a field hospital.
Environmental Systems
In another nod to their Federation allies, the Kavaar’ton utilizes decentralized environmental systems; thus making it nearly impossible to knock out life support short of destroying the vast majority of the ship. These systems are comprised of gravity plating and room-based air-filtration systems. Sickbay and Cargo bays have a more robust system, allowing for atmospheric changes as needed or to aid in decontamination efforts.
Mess Hall
There is one dining area on the ship, and all crew dine together with no regard for rank or House. Located on deck 13, the room consists of a large kitchen where fresh food can be prepared, along with a bank of replicators. The room is filled with long tables and attached benches. First come, first served. Open at all times.
Crew Quarters
Unlike Federation vessels, Klingon ships do not dedicate much room to ‘privacy’. Crew quarters for all except Department Heads and above are Squad Bays where up to 20 share space. Bunk beds and floor-mounted securable footlockers are provided for each member of the crew. Communal refresher. Each bunk does have a privacy screen that can be activated and which will block outside vision and sound.
Department Head Quarters
Each Department Head is given private quarters. Each contains a wall mounted bunk, a desk, a replicator (beverages only, all crew eat together), and a refresher.
First Officer Quarters
Slightly larger than the DH quarters and with a bed instead of a bunk, this room also has a comm station. Located on deck 3
Commanding Officer’s Quarters
Designed as the Commander sees fit, but twice the size of the DH quarters. Located on Deck 2.
AUXILIARY SPACECRAFT SYSTEMS
The Kavaar’ton class warship carries a full complement of Ku’Rist Warp Fighters and 40 Assault Shuttles.

Conclusion:
“I like the enemy to know there are a few guys like me around.” -General Jim Mattis
The Kavaar’ton class warship is designed for a singular purpose- to destroy the enemy. It is not a show of force; it is the encapsulation of the term in a star ship. As the newest centerpiece of the Klingon fleet, it is a not-so-gentle reminder that while it was created at a time of relative peace… for it’s creators, peace is rarely an option.
Robert Archer EDir
I like the spec overall, has a very Klingon flavor, however, I did notice a few things:
There’s a lot of perceived empty space. Sure the general crew quarters are barracks-style bunkrooms, but there are still decks with only one or two things on them outside of that. Maybe add some “flavor rooms” like the tractor beam maintenance access, or cloaking device maintenance.
Just a suggestion, maybe add some flavor to the cloaking device and comms section? Not required, obviously, but something to make it feel unique rather than just “we stole this from the Federation”
Katy
I can definitely add some cultural-specific touches here and there, absolutely.
James
I agree with Katy that it does seem to have a lot of empty space. However in my head, (and this may not be the intention) some areas are huge. For instance, I imagine the forge is the entire deck. Not only ate they repairing and making hand held weapons, but maintaining their armor as well. For a crew that large a forge that takes up a whole deck makes sense. Same with the armories.
My other observation may not matter.
History and Mission overview.
I like that there are references for the previous ship spec you are building on. And in the history you have about House Duroc and those events. When I read a ship spec and it says something like: ‘Because of the events of Wolf 359’ or whatnot, I always go to Memory Alpha to read more about what happened. Since the events around House Duroc are from In Game stories, a note about that (and/or links to posts) might be useful to future players that are not familiar with the story.Over all I like the spec and it absolutely screams, don’t mess with me u less you want to die gloriously.

OOps! Sorry James, forgot the day >.> anyhow, my review would echo much of what has been said above, I would like to see some more klingonesque flesh out of details for rp and such before I get into picky stuff on the more MNP etc side of things. So with that said this review of the Kavaar’ton is closed and returned to the designer for further work.
Thank you James!
