So over the past two terms we have worked where we all could to update the various plans in use by the club in designing ship specifications. So far we have gotten two of the three major documents fairly well updated to some agreement. Mainly these were Modern Navy Plan and part 1 of 2 of the Milwaukie Plan. SSSF also remains to get a going through. First off to be clear, no older designs will be updated, unless the designer that maintains this design chooses to update them, and those updates go through the usual channels at the end of all these plan reviews and approvals, then has this update approved. For example if I as the Mythology class’s designer choose to update that design then it would need to go through the usual review cycles like any other design and then be approved by the designated reviewer moderator (usually the AEDir in this case since i’m the EDir). Otherwise all currently used designs will be grandfathered in.

To this end then there will be several discussions put up one by one that we will be going through this term.

1) First will be a final check of the Modern Navy Plan with the older currently used plan on the site, with the suggested changes as per the last two terms. Once this is done the final approval for these changes will be put through for later updating into the Library for coding once such is ready for use.

2) Second will then be a review of part 1 of the proposed changes last term to the Milwaukie Plan, followed by part 2 of that, once final approval is given to any changes there the same will be done for the Library as needed with the MNP.

3) Third to get discussed will be SSSF, how this takes shape will in part depend on if the idea of merging Milwaukie with SSSF in spots is decided to be done. But one component of the SSSF review and update that we partly completed at the end of last mid-term was how we can ease the designing issues of ships to be lest ‘nerdy’ and ‘math intensive’ as some said to me over the years. Through the help of Levon Johnson one idea for a auto-calc of sorts to help in this way might be one idea we could look at, obviously others could be brought up too.

There are then other ideas I would like to discuss depending on how the earlier discussions take shape and time permitting obviously. I will be posting the first part of this plan for the Modern Navy around saturday or sunday this week. Finally for now while the EDept is willing to help new designers with their ideas during this period we will for the time being not be accepting new designs until this process is done, if though a submission is solely technology based (not ship!) then that will be something we could consider putting up for review as per normal
