An interesting question came up during a conversation about the Discovery class’s Medical Module. See the specs here.

The Medical Module section says that “two sickbays could be added”. The “could be” here is troubling - my first read makes me think it’s two sickbays per module, but that verb choice could mean that it’s only one, and “could be” two if you use two medical modules.

I still feel like the two sickbays per module argument holds when considering the additional EMH that the module comes with, which is “restricted to module sickbays.” This implies, to me at least, that it comes with multiple sickbays on each module, unless there is one EMH shared between two sickbays on separate decks; and why only one if we have two modules?

Just thought it might be an interesting conversation.

The Disco spec has a few issues with it, wording included. I’ve always taken the module description to mean that a single module has two sickbays with an EMH specific to those sickbays. I was still finding my feet in EDept back when this was passed, so I didn’t feel comfortable reviewing it; I don’t remember why this vague wording got approved, so I’m not 100% sure.

As EDir, my official stance is that each medical module on the Discovery-class has two sickbays.
