The Viking is allowed to change her fleet and her class without being decommissioned as an Alt RPG. To continue as an Alt RPG, the USS Viking must maintain the standards set out by FCOMM for a Standard Ship while also maintaining a horror/supernatural theme.

The USS Viking will be structured the same as a Standard Ship, and be commanded by a CO and XO who are appointed the same way as on a Standard Ship and a GM who is appointed in the same way as on a Standard Ship. CO and XO positions on the USS Viking will count fully toward any limits in place and IC ranks will count toward a member’s player rank as on a Standard Ship. New members will only be placed on the USS Viking if specifically requested by the new member.

As a horror/supernatural ship, the USS Viking is not bound by the established Star Trek canon. Players may select characters, abilities, and technology from non-canon and custom sources, with the approval of the CO. These freedoms must be treated responsibility and they are allowed with the sole reason of enabling the horror/supernatural environment. FCOMM restrictions regarding God characters, canon characters, and so on are still in place.

The current CO and crew of the USS Viking are retained in their current positions aboard the ship and grandfathered in under the ship’s .

FCOMM states this:

“Alternate RPG Areas are those areas where RPGs take place that do not meet one or more of the characteristics for Standard Ships.”

My initial take on this charter is that this ship isn’t an alt RPG because it doesn’t have any characteristics different than a standard ship.

Can you find a sentence in the FCOMM bylaw where that is a deviation from a standard ship? I can’t.

The bylaw requires COs to use their strict discretion on non-canon positions and characters in order to maintain “a healthy, fun, and canon-compatible role playing environment.”

In any event, I think the expectation has always been a standard ship follows canon. That’s why the Constellation and Leviathan are alt-RPGs - neither are required to follow canon to maintain their themes.

If that’s an issue going forward, we can address that in the FCOMM bylaw to be more explicit.
