Edict 14

Edict 12 is rescinded, on the grounds that I’m rubbish, and Matt Evans is already a Commodore, having been promoted two terms ago by Sage. Now, the bar for promotion to Rear Admiral is a higher bar, requiring the member to make a permanent and lasting impact, in addition to the other key criteria of “exceptional commitments to the club” and “over a number of years”.

As I previously wrote, I am confident that Matt individual has made exceptional commitments to the club. Since his promotion to Fleet Captain, he has served in four different cabinets, both as Fleet Commander of three different fleets, and most recently as Gamemaster Director. In the latter role, he has had the unenviable challenge of meeting the demand for GMs across the club, whilst also ensuring further resilience by ensuring GMs are not being overcommitted. He has been recognised for his work previously on his promotion to Commodore, but he has also had to manage the departure of key experienced GMs who held a number of positions that needed to be filled at fairly short nice. Whilst there is still much to do to manage this risk in the long term, his work this term has been instrumental in ensuring ships continued to function.

However, it’s not just his work in cabinet that I’ve come to respect and admire. He works behind the scenes in TECH, and is often seen in the #exodus channel on discord providing technical support to members. He actively contributes to Command discussions, and has provided me advice over the past term as both President but also more recently as a GMT. It’s these discretionary things that he does that means he clearly meets the “exceptional commitments” threshold.

It is his time as GMDir and, previously, as FComm where he managed the rebalancing of fleets, that confirms to me that he has had a lasting impact on the club.

Now for whether “over a number of years” have been met. Well, in terms of time served in the club, The Next Generation crew were still flying around in the Enterprise-E… which to me doesn’t feel that long ago, but it was 27 years ago. Given his dedication to the club during that period, and the impact he has had across it, I hereby promote Matt Evans to the rank of Rear Admiral, with all of the rights and privileges thereto.
