I didn’t want to respond in the the thread above, but this is in reference to it.

I think we, all of us, need to take a collective deep breath. Far too often, our ‘discussions’ turn to arguments and the core of the issues and concerns get lost in the shouting.

I truly believe that all of us want the club to succeed. We may have different perspectives and views of how to do that, but all successful communities have two things in common: a common goal and the willingness to compromise with and support one another in order to achieve that goal. We have at least part of the first… but we all need to dedicate ourselves to the second.

We don’t have to agree with one another all the time. We don’t even have to like everyone here. But we do need to respect one another enough to work together for the benefit of the club. Enough finger pointing. Enough making blame the crux of our interactions outside of RP. Blame is a waste of time at this point. We are where we are… now let’s work on how to move forward.

James, you and I spoke privately earlier. I am going to repeat one thing I said from that conversation for everyone’s benefit: we can’t just skip to a happy ending, because nobody would really believe it. We didn’t actually do the work to resolve anything, so just kind of calling it a waste of time and saying we shouldn’t ignores the fact that there is still an unaddressed problem. We’d be lying to ourselves. We don’t lie to people if we respect them.

I don’t generally post here but I wanted to say I 100% agree with this. Nothing will be solved if every discussion of the matter devolves into an argument. We need solutions we can all agree to, and the arguments and finger pointing simply gets in the way of that goal.

I agree completely with this. We all love this club or we wouldn’t still be here. After 30+ years I have to believe we can move forward together as a whole. Thank you James for posting this.

I will just conclude here by saying that there’s no reason for discussion of Abigail’s idea to stop just because a tangent came up. We can discuss multiple topics at the same time. I haven’t stopped anyone from talking about it. I in fact intend to comment on it later if I have anything to contribute to it (GMing is something I rarely express an opinion on because I haven’t actually done it).

I would suggest that if you’re reading the board and think that we shouldn’t waste time on the tangent between me and Sidney and everyone else who decided to pile on to it, you should give Abigail’s thread your attention and post to it directly, rather than engage the tangent or this virtue signalling exercise.

I agree with Joe. Just because people got a little ticked off does not mean the discussion should end. As I have referred to in my other post we would go at it like Parana until we had the problem solved. Bloody noses be damned. All in the open and yes sometimes you could say it was toxic if you want to remember it that way. However it was usually about the issue and not the people as the crux was always different opinions on the issue. Passionate people on both sides. Yes it got personal sometimes but it was always issue driven. So I agree. Work the problem now we got pass the other part.

For what it’s worth, I agree with you in principle. But, someone did complain to Steve as the Vice President to close the thread, and since the complaint was about me as the President in particular, I agreed to be bound by whatever he decided to do. So I think we should respect that.
