The EGO Election is now open for a member of EGO for a two-year term beginning on July 1, 2022.

What is EGO? EGO is STF’s check on the power of the President, who otherwise holds a fairly dictatorial role in the club’s governance. There are three members of EGO, each with staggered terms, producing an election every eight months. A member of EGO is restricted from serving as President or Vice President during their two-year term, although they may resign from EGO to accept one of those positions. The member of EGO who is closest to the end of their term is the “Chief EGO” and s/he will generally speak on behalf of the group. EGO has the following powers, which require a majority vote (so two out of the three members of EGO):

Veto a bill posted by the President within ten days of the posting date.
Veto the appointment of an Election Coordinator by the President.
Overturn a member ban imposed by the President.
Validate and investigate an impeachment call against the President or another member of EGO.
To be a candidate for EGO, you must meet the following requirements:

1) Hold a minimum member rank of Fleet Captain.
2) Be an active Member for at least eight continuous months prior to this election, excluding routine LOAs. A Member is defined as any person holding an active STF account and at least one of the following: a governmental position, an active roleplaying character, or a Gamemaster position for the previous 30 days.
3) Have not held a position on EGO in the prior eight months (for instance, you cannot serve two consecutive terms or resign two months before the election and then run again).
4) Not be the President or Vice President.

If you are meet these requirements and you are interested in serving a two-year term on EGO, please email ec@star-fleet.com by 23:59 EDT on Friday, June 10th, 2022. If you have emailed me, and don’t receive a confirmation email back, please reach out to me on discord. A one-week voting period (restricted to Members with a rank of Fleet Captain or above) will begin shortly after the close of nominations.

As a reminder, there is no campaigning in an EGO election. If you are found to be campaigning, you WILL be disqualified.

Failing to reach the required number of candidates of Fleet Captain or above, I am lowering the rank requirement to Captain. Self nominations are extended until Sunday. If there are still not the required nominees by 23:59 EST Sunday, The rank requirement will be lowered to Commander until Tuesday at 23:59.

The election will start immediately following the close of the nomination period where there are enough candidates.

Captains and above are encouraged to send me an email or discord message to indicate their interest.

Did you receive a response back that I had received it and you were on the ballot? I have made diligent search of my email and have not received your statement of availability.

On one hand, it has been ten days and you didn’t bring it up before, plus I am responsive on Discord, two different emails, Facebook, and the contact form. I am kind of suspicious, though in the interest of fairness I will close the ballot and reopen it at 6:30 PST tomorrow evening. In short you have 24 hours to forward the original email to gjoosten.stf@gmail.com for evaluation and verification.
