With that in mind though it means I need to open applications for a new Academy Commandant. Applicants should meet the minimum of the following criteria whether new or old to the role. The Applicant must have had 3 months Academy experience, which can include time served as a cadet.

The CADET bylaw says that time as a cadet is excluded for this time in the Academy requirement (emphasis mine):

The Academy Commandant and the Vice Commandant must have had three months Academy experience (excluding time served as a cadet), preferably as a Commanding Officer or Executive Officer on an Academy Ship.
