2) I’m not aware of anyone asking “over and over again”. The issue about having no slow ships to place anyone came up late January leading to the PDept to raising the issue and finding out ways to solve it.

So far this term I’ve been asked to change my ship to accepting new members on four different occasions. I’m not sure what I have to do to stop being asked this question as thorough explanations haven’t seemed to work. But I can tell you, it is happening and I’ve found it very frustrating.

I hear your frustration in having to repeat your position several times over the last term. I’m following up with the cabinet on that, but I think it’s worth noting a couple of things:

1. Every ship that chooses not to accept new members has a direct negative impact on the future health of the club. It might be a small impact, but it’s still one fewer ship to where we can spread new members around, which leads to both potential issues placing new members and an increased load on other ships to retain and mentor the new members.
2. Asking people in the club to check/confirm something typically leads to very few people actually doing it and/or responding. By requesting a quick explanation, it imparts the importance of consideration and a reply.

I understand that you disagree that the decreasing number of ships accepting new members is an issue. I can tell you that in my two terms in the PDept recently, I was almost always left with one ship at most to consider for a player and that was before several ships switched to not accepting new members. There are certainly other factors to this too (such as members holding many senior and command staff positions and therefore an AWOL or LOA ruling out several ships), but the lack of ships accepting new members is an obvious consideration.

Please continue to bear with us as we spend our time and energy trying to make sure that the club can continue to succeed while also trying to protect individual COs’ desires to have a particular environment on their ship.
