Mike was top in his Engineer in class after his first year he left to work on his family Cargo vessel. During a Cargo run they were Attacked by space pirates. They took all the cargo the warp core and killed most of the crew. Mike stayed alive in a small room He was able to get life support working in with a small Emergency beacon he was able to build out of parts. A star fleet vessel saved him he was alone for 6 weeks. After he got back to earth he rejoin the Academy. After he graduated he enrolled himself into classes like Advanced warp theory, Computer warp Analysis, Quantum engineering, AI research.
