Personality
Jacen Mercer is calm, observant, and difficult to rattle. He has a habit of quietly studying a room before speaking, always taking note of exits, potential threats, and the people around him. While some officers find him overly cautious, Jacen considers caution one of the reasons people make it home alive.

Off duty, however, he’s considerably more relaxed. He has a dry sense of humor and enjoys teasing people he considers friends. He’s not particularly loud or outgoing, but he is surprisingly easy to talk to once someone gets past his reserved exterior.

Jacen is fiercely protective of his crew. He believes the job of Security isn’t simply to carry a phaser and arrest people—it’s to make sure everyone aboard the ship gets another chance to see their families.

Background
Jacen was born on Earth and grew up around a Starfleet family. His mother was a science officer, while his father served in engineering. Growing up around Starfleet personnel gave him an early fascination with starships, but he originally had no intention of joining the Security division.

That changed during his time at Starfleet Academy.

Jacen discovered that he had a natural talent for tactical analysis, hand-to-hand combat, and reading dangerous situations before they escalated. He graduated near the top of his security class and quickly earned a reputation for keeping his head during emergencies.

His first assignment was aboard a smaller science vessel. During an unexpected boarding incident, Jacne helped evacuate several crew members while coordinating the ship’s defensive response. His actions earned him a promotion and eventually led to his transfer to the USS USS Chernov
