Il-Gatine Nekto

Starfleet Medical Profile
Cadet Nekto suffers from very few physical abnormalities despite his harsh upbringing. Standing at six feet on the dot and weighing in at 152 pounds (slightly below average for a Saurian of his size), Il-Gatine strikes a somewhat gaunt but overall healthy profile for his race. Boasting a healthy viridian hue typical to Saurians descended from their homeworld’s southern continents, Cadet Nekto’s adherence to a rather intense hygiene routine ensures his scales are free from flaking and dryness that usually accompanies Saurians traversing multiple temperature diverse biomes. Overall, Il-Gatine can claim a clean bill of health.

Biographic Data
Hailing from the Volan III colony in the former Cardassian Demilitarized Zone, Il-Gatine was raised in one the founding worlds of the Maquis, an organization both of his parents claimed membership in. While Volan III was once a pristine society founded by the labor of hard-scrabble colonists, the Dominion War left all such colonies in ruins. Though far too young to remember the conflict, Nekto spent much of this time as a hatching fleeing Jem’hadar patrols and jumping from ruined world to ruined world at the behest of his parent’s ever-shrinking Maquis cell. Eventually his parents would wind up in Federation custody and the Dominion War would come to an end. Trusted to the care of his Uncle, Il-Gatine returned to Volan III and found it a ruin. Still the few remaining colonists would not give up the claim so many of them fought and died for. Thus, an adolescent Nekto grew up surrounded by broken spirits and broken buildings slowly being rebuilt from the ground up. ‘

Such an upbringing left him with profoundly altruistic inclinations, a strong sense of community, and a pioneer mentality. Though Starfleet remains unpopular and distrusted by the many colonists displaced from the Dominion War, Il-Gatine’s Uncle served as helmsmen on a Starfleet medical frigate and made him question of the prevailing bias against the organization with stories of selfless adventure and a multitude of challenging ethical debates. These spirited conversations with his Uncle were enough to compel him to pursue a career in Starfleet Medical rather than in the colonies as he’d originally planned, even though doing so alienated himself from the community he once helped build.
