Shilo

Appearance: Shilo is a tall, soft figure. He is 210 cm tall, which is fairly average for their species. Shilo is a wolf-like being, with fur all over their body, a canine snout, wolf-like ears, and a fluffy tail. Their tail is nearly long enough to touch the floor. Their eyes are soft brown, and their fur has a gradient coloration from golden-orange on his back to white in the middle of their chest, with a general coloration resembling that of a Shiba Inu.

Where most humanoid species have feet structured so that they walk on their heels, Shilo’s species is much like the Caitians in that they walk on the balls and toes of their feet, their heels much longer than those of standard species and positioned high in the air whilst walking. This is called being digitigrade. Another difference is that the species of their planet evolved with four phalanges instead of the five of most species - leaving them with three fingers and a thumb instead of the standard four fingers and a thumb. This holds for their toes as well. Their fingers are tipped with sharp canine claws, but they are careful to maintain them as to not harm anyone by accidentally scratching them.

Shilo generally wears loose, flowing clothing in vibrant colours and patterns (it is not unheard of to see them wearing a ‘hawaiian’ shit), with a device on their wrist that acts as a universal translator, a clock, a PaDD, and several other uses as well. Shilo two earrings on the base of their right ear, and their left ear is tattooed. The design of the tattoo is that of a domestic Bor’kin, curled up in a happy nap.

History: Shilo was born in 2238 and raised within the alternate timeline known as the Kelvin Timeline. Within the Kelvin Timeline, the Interstellar Alliance kept its moniker and was not called GOK Alliance by the UFP. Shilo was born in Nal’dru, a city in the region of Salan on the continent of Laruna. As Nal’dru was the “Hollywood” of Laruna, meaning that Shilo grew up surrounded by the conventions of film-making, and even ended up being a child extra in a few films due to their parent being an actor.

As a child, Shilo spent the majority of their time (when not in school) running around in the woods and mountains that bordered their home, swimming in the ocean, and in general being a menace to their mother and two older siblings. Extremely curious and energetic, their favourite films were ones related to space, aliens, and adventure, and every chance they got, they would interact with the various off-worlders that visited the city. These off-worlders were mostly the people of Kalari and Okinos, but after first-contact with Starfleet happened in 2245, the variety of tourists increased!

In their late teen years, Shilo applied and was accepted into the Interstellar Alliance Academy for Astronauts (I3A) - a organisation which, similar to Starfleet Academy, has military and space training combined with university-level education in STEM subjects, history, astronomy, and politics. Shilo showed a great capacity for empathy, an open mind, and quick reflexes, so they were approached and accepted a position in the Pilot Corps.

It was in the Pilot Corps, while training to become a pilot for some of the largest ships in the fleet, that Shilo met a man who would change their life forever. Mwezi, a strong, handsome Laleri who was focusing on the security track with a crash course in helm and navigation. Shilo immediately formed a crush on Mwezi, and although the rugged security officer seemed entirely oblivious to their feelings, they still became good friends. Shilo later met Mwezi’s childhood friend, a brilliant woman named Kula, and their stomach once again filled with butterflies. Luckily for them, Kula was not nearly as dense as her friend, and even returned Shilo’s feelings. All three hit it off quite well, and by the time they graduated, they were in a relationship (polyamory is quite common on Galdor).

While their training had been focused on being able to bond to and pilot the larger classes of ships, Shilo ended up bonded to the IASS Snapper, a Saku-Class shuttle. They piloted the Snapper until 2263, often using their shuttle to visit Kula’s research station, seeing as they were stationed in Galdor’s orbit quite frequently. In 2263, the Incident occurred. Kula’s research station experienced a systems failure and Kula was lost in interdimensional space. Mwezi was heavily effected by her loss, nearly dying, and Shilo was close behind, only retaining their wits because of the increased mental fortitude granted by their bond to the Snapper. Mwezi, Shilo, and the Snapper managed to fly through the tear in space-time and seal up the damage, also rescuing Kula in the process, but their return passage was obscured and they ended up in the Prime Timeline, in the vicinity of a ship called the USS Leviathan in the year 2396. The Snapper, unfortunately didn’t make it, its artificial mind unable to handle the stress of the interdimensional travel. Naturally they spent a while on the Levi, long enough for Starfleet Intelligence to confirm that they had no idea how to send the trio back to their original home, and it wouldn’t be disastrous to allow them access to the ‘future’ that exists within the Prime Timeline.

Kula and Shilo returned to Galdor to re-integrate into this future society, but Mwezi couldn’t help but want to continue working with Starfleet, even if he wasn’t there for the same purpose he had been initially. After a full two years on the Leviathan, he was transferred to the USS Asimov, where he served as a Security Officer for almost a year. After few months as XO of the Asimov during a secret mission, swiftly followed by a demotion back to Lt., Mwezi was offered the opportunity to invite Shilo and Kula to move to the ship as his Civilian family. During Mwezi’s “secret mission,” Kula and Shilo were told that their partner was a traitor, but they never fully accepted that “fact.” Shilo managed to get authorized to pilot the Asimov’s shuttles, which they were quite pleased about, and they and Kula gladly moved in with their fiancé.
