Background:

Jackson was a product of a short lived fling between his mother and father (who he has yet to meet), while his father was attending a junior command conference at the Starfleet Academy. While Jason’s mother never indulged the secret to Sam, she did inform Jackson of who his father was and how they met. Unfortunately, Emma’s shuttlecraft was attacked by the Borg on the outskirts of Federation space and she was assimilated into the Collective. Jackson was left an orphan until Starfleet Medical located Weir.
