“Not many, sir. As hectic as all of this is, the change seemed fairly smooth, in comparison to what you’ve been describing, regarding your own staff changes.”

Johnson nodded. He decided another approach to get to know his new Chief Science Officer. “My background is in sciences as well. My first post as a young chief science officer was on a Discovery-class starship just like Endeavour. Although an older ship class, the science lab resources are still exceptional,” Johnson said. “Do you have any research projects in mind while on Endeavour?”

“A pleasure to know another scientific mind,” Vheris seemed to be more comfortable, once this was revealed. “I choose not to have anything planned, seeing as time has an odd way if making any stone plans become useless.”

Eshrallias continued, “However, I do look forwards to any opportunities for projects, that come my way: whether suggested by a Cadet or another Department Head, I’m open to ideas.”

The Andorian was not much a person for having a specific plan, unless needbe. There was morals and basic procedures which she followed, however, she never boarded a ship thinking: ‘This is all I’m going to do with my life, here.’ If anything, she was open minded, despite that coldshoulder. “Have there been any particular experiments, which you have conducted or participated within, that had notable results?”

“Quite some time ago now, I fear,” Johnson said. “Ever since Starfleet decided to move me into Command, the scientific breakthroughs passed me by.

“I used to focus my work into stellar phenomena,” Johnson explained. “There’s a paper somehwhere about modelling the gravitional waves produced by colliding white dwarfs. What it doesn’t talk about was trying to replicate a scaled-down model in the ship’s holodeck… I still can’t quite recall who was angrier at me afterwards - my captain or the chief engineer. Let’s just say we made some… unexpected… breakthroughs on a previously unknown effect that certain gravitational waves had on warp fields.”

Amusement tinged the pale grey of the Scientist’s eyes. Perhaps it was the relatable nature of his attempts to scale this model down, in order to to replicate it in the holodeck. Of course, Engineers and opposing departments might not understand the madness that compelled the scientist to do such. However, it was no secret; Scientists were madmen dressed in pretty blues.

“What is this paper called, sir, if you don’t mind me asking?” Eshrallias was curious to the contents of this paper, and what discoveries the Captain had made, during his unbeknownst efforts to irritate his CO and the Chief Engineer.
