“In any case, I and Buckingham are going to investigate as Starfleet liaison officers? I-I mean, if it is not a problem for you all and for mister Buckingham.” He looked straight to the doctor, playing his thumbs around.
“We can also interrogate again the suspects on place and the security teams.”
A damn hazardous proposal for his persona and his ego.

“Don’t worry about that, lieutenant. I definitely wouldn’t mind having a chat with them all once we’ve got some more information,” Paron said with a slight smile. Paron knew that this was going to take everyone’s specialties to ensure they get as much information as possible. “If it’s OK with the captain, I’d like a copy of the doctor’s and scientists reports on this matter regarding autopsy and any forensic evidence we can find,” he said.

He had always enjoyed a good mystery, and loved the holoadaptations of the earthen Agatha Christie stories, but his time in Starfleet has shown him the real difference, “Once we have that, we can get started on seeing if there was anything more… suspicious about this death,” he said. “I’d definitely like to talk to the suspect once our doctor has looked at him as well, Mason,” he said turning to the liaison.

“your smile creeps me a bit, Mr. Paron” Sean delighted with a giggling nature “also, if I can be of any utility, just don’t be afraid asking. I’m pretty new, but capable and willing to help to solve this case.” after that, Sean made a brief scan of everyone’s in the room and especially he looked to Mason: surely an interesting individual.

Mason listened while the others talked before interjecting when he was able to. “I’m afraid that the mine security is limited. In a facility like this the principle issues are petty theft and brawls. The sheriff and deputy take care of most issues. Area foremen have the authority of self-policing in their group, relaying anything that is beyond them to the sheriff. There are two other deputies, however, and they are more administrative in nature.” He paused and brought up a note off his case that displayed on the screen.

“Psychological screening for employees are typically focused on historical mental incidents and their ability to handle long periods of time away from home and general isolation and shift work.” The screen showed a slowly scrolling medical history of Kramer. Minor injuries, a broken leg prior to the work, scrapes from a number of brawls that he had been a part of to break it up. He had been showing an increase in synthehol consumption in the months leading up to this incident.

“hmm..” the officer mourned. One thing was certain: the case was getting darker and darker, but also interesting and with a veil of adventure “That is hella of complicated! it seems he was depressed or something in the lasts months and the absurd synthehol consumption is suggesting it.”

“You see that doctor?” he asked pointing towards the increased consumption. Pointing to where the increase began “he seems to have picked up the drink. Anything happen to him around the time he started drinking more, Mason?” Paron asked. He knew that increased consumption could be part of the issue, and maybe the cause of that had something to do with what happened months later.

Buckingham narrowed his eyes slightly as he scrutinized Kramer’s Medical History. “Yes I see what you mean” Tom said in reply to Lieutenant Paron. “Interesting indeed. Mason, the Synthehol in the facility - has it had the deleterious nature of it removed, like most standard Synthehol? Or does it have a certain amount of real Alcohol in it?” Tom inquired.

“It is not unusual as a tour of duty progresses that there is an increase in synthehol consumption,” Mason said, then looked at Thomas. “During tours, while the work shift cycles are on the workers are limited to synthehol. It has been enhanced over the years and there is a screening process to ensure that the effects have been shrugged off prior to work details. There are places and times when real alcohol is permitted, however, our statistics show that only some utilize it. Being able to have the effects without the hangover after has many preferring the synthehol. Kramer’s consumption was a mixed bag, according to the logs.”

Paron listened to the information as Mason explained it. “Is the consumption rate increase on the victim’s record common, or is it higher than usual for your staff?” He asked. Torias wanted to make sure that there was nothing unusual about the increase in consumption and it was indeed something normal.

Flynn had been listening carefully to the questions that were being asked by the crew members, especially Lt. Paron. His background in security and investigations was showing through.

“Lt. Knights, while I ‘ppeciate your willingness to go all gung ho on this investigation, I’d prefer to have Lt Paron take the lead on this. Investigating crimes is the responsibility of the security department. Of course, I do expect you and Dr. Buckingham and your departments to assist in any way possible. It’s nothing personal, son, but security does train for these kinds of things.”

The XO sat back once again and let the team continue to ask questions. He would step in if need be. . . .
