“I once sent an away team to an uninhabited class M planet, which should have gone without an issue. Turns out, the planet has natural defenses we were not aware of, and the crew we sent got struck with some sort of unknown disease that the transporters couldn’t remove, so they were stuck there. They died a few days later. It was also my suggestion that got an away team sent down there. It was hard to deal with at the time, but everyone on that team volunteered to go down, and none of us knew about the plant life was sentient and didn’t appreciate visitors,” Torias said. “But hey, when your dealing with killer plants, there’s not exactly anything in the instruction manual of a starfleet officer in dealing with that sort of thing,” he said with a small smile. It was obviously something he had put past him and accepted, but remembered. The way he talked about it suggested it was at least a few years ago.

Kaylee smiled softly as she listened to Paron handle the cadet’s response with amazing aptitude. “That’s very well said, Lieutenant,” she commented appreciatively. “And killer plants is precisely why I went into counseling, not security.” She added a small wink to the end, hoping that the others understood that she was not making light of the situation. “Every choice you make as an individual, both inside Starfleet and outside, is your own… no one can control you that way,” she reiterated to Corvax. “While you both made a poor decision to engage in a game, your friend made the choice to perform something dangerous. That was his choice and his alone. What you can take from it is to consider your actions more carefully in the future.” Her tone softened the firm words to the young cadet.

“He didn’t make the choice of doing something dangerous. My dare wasn’t dangerous in anyway ,it became dangerous the moment he saw me as a freak....” he said as his anxiety started to kick in. ” I’m sorry....I need to go…I need time to think for a bit…if your dont mind....” he said as he went to get up.

Kaylee frowned slightly and rested a hand on Corvax’s arm to stop him for a moment. “The same words hold true, Cadet. We’re responsible for our own actions and unless you picked up a phaser and shot your friend, you are not responsible for whatever he chose to do.” Despite her hair literally being let down for the moment, she was still both a trained counselor and first officer of the ship. “Have you seem Commander Harper-Ryan yet?”

Dominic couldn’t bring himself to make eye contact with her when she stopped him and shook his head as he listened to her before responding”no I haven’t paid her a visit since I arrived.....”
