Kaylee smiled at Kingstone although she internally winced at being called “Mrs.” Not that she really preferred Commander, either, but it was something to get used to as she moved into command from her career in counseling. Speaking of counseling… her eyes drifted to Corvax and her head tilted to the side slightly. Reaching across the table, she gently put her hand on his and asked, “is everything okay, Cadet?”

Dominic snapped out of his trance, shaking his head remains silent for a moment before speaking, “back home I didn’t have anyone but my family, I couldn’t make friends......and this situation reminds me too much of the reason why I didn’t have friends back home....”
Cadet Dominic Cyris Corvax-DoctorKaylee’s eyebrows furrowed in concern as she processed what Corvax was telling her. Deciding to play slightly dumb, she tilted her head to the side again as she studied him. “Having fun with your coworkers and superiors in a lounge reminds you of not having friends?” she asked lightly.

OOC warning this is about to get deep I’m sorry if it’s too deep.
Dominic sighed gently sitting up straight looking at commander Adrie “last time I did something like this me a my group of close friends were being stupid while playing truth or dare.....I dared my best friend to do something I absolutely regret, and he lost his life because of it. That was the last time I had actually had fun with friends. And that was the night I found out I accepted as cadet.....we celebrated and had fun, until the accident. ” he said as he looked at her then looked down trying to forget about it.

Kaylee gently squeezed the hand that was still under her own. “That must have been a very difficult roller coaster of emotions for you,” she observed simply. “But you have to remember that we are all responsible for our own actions, no matter what others might tell us to do. That’s a really important lesson for Starfleet officers.”

Dominic looked at her “I just hope I’ll be able to come with terms with his death....if I hadn’t dared him,he would still be alive.....” he said softly biting his lip “I hadn’t bothered with most of my feeling because of that…I want to feel emotions like love and true happiness again”

Torias looked toward Dominic and nodded “Well, happiness and love can only be appreciated in companionship with the emotions of loss and hurt. They go hand in hand. It only makes those emotions stronger,” he said. “I’m sure the Commander and Lieutenant will agree with me here, but in Starfleet - we need to make big decisions all the time, sometimes that will result in the loss of a crewmember. We don’t want it to happen, we try and do everything we can to avoid it, but sometimes - it’s inevitable. As the Commander said, everyone is responsible for their own actions. It doesn’t make it easier knowing you may have sent someone to their death, and more than one of us sitting here has probably done that, always without that intent. It’s a lesson that’s hard to learn, but one you always need to remember, especially when you enter into senior staff ranks,” Torias added to the Commander’s point.
“I once sent an away team to an uninhabited class M planet, which should have gone without an issue. Turns out, the planet has natural defenses we were not aware of, and the crew we sent got struck with some sort of unknown disease that the transporters couldn’t remove, so they were stuck there. They died a few days later. It was also my suggestion that got an away team sent down there. It was hard to deal with at the time, but everyone on that team volunteered to go down, and none of us knew about the plant life was sentient and didn’t appreciate visitors,” Torias said. “But hey, when your dealing with killer plants, there’s not exactly anything in the instruction manual of a starfleet officer in dealing with that sort of thing,” he said with a small smile. It was obviously something he had put past him and accepted, but remembered. The way he talked about it suggested it was at least a few years ago.

Kaylee smiled softly as she listened to Paron handle the cadet’s response with amazing aptitude. “That’s very well said, Lieutenant,” she commented appreciatively. “And killer plants is precisely why I went into counseling, not security.” She added a small wink to the end, hoping that the others understood that she was not making light of the situation. “Every choice you make as an individual, both inside Starfleet and outside, is your own… no one can control you that way,” she reiterated to Corvax. “While you both made a poor decision to engage in a game, your friend made the choice to perform something dangerous. That was his choice and his alone. What you can take from it is to consider your actions more carefully in the future.” Her tone softened the firm words to the young cadet.
