When Kanto entered the room, Kai was focused to joint some cables, while Jeanna and Peabody, after aligning everything and debugging programs bug, were already creating a new interface so the module could be attached to the relè. The presence of the CSO made Kai jumping of scare and he almost made falling the solder, saving it just with a bit of luck.
“Sir!” He immediately stood up at ease. “Everything is going smoothly sir. I and the team just finished to set up the program and aligning some tubes and channels. I was going to joint the remaining light fiber optic cables, and after Peabody and Jeanna finish to build-up that new interface we’ll be ready to test it, Sir.”
He would look the two NEs in the back of Mr. Kanto, who were happily keep going in what they were doing.
“Also… I can’t find an Energy Cell strong enough to power the unit as it consume a 20% more than normal relè. Do you know where I can find it, Sir?” He asked to the Vulcan, pointing the empty casing for the cell.

“You have two choices for the energy cell, cadet,” Kanto replied, in that formal yet even tone of his, “You could go down to Engineering and see if they have any spares in the equipment storage, or you could use the Replicator here in the lab to fabricate one.” As he spoke, he indicated the console at the back of the science lab. “Is there anything that I could help you with? I am currently off duty, and have no plans for the evening.”

“Ahaha!” He laughed no-sense “If you can, sir.. it would be more than appreciated!” To be honest he did not wanted to have him around too much as it was such nerve-tensing but… “I have never worked with a 10 years old replicator” pointing out the weird looking console “and I do not know how it works.” Added.
He was updated in the usage of the new and standardized replicators, but really, the mess of the old ones, not of his kind.
In the meanwhile Jeanna and Peabody ultimately finished the interface and mounted it on the relè frame. Awaiting the Module to be installed, they were already working on the receiver with a hand by the young Cadet who was still awaiting response by his superior.

“Of course, cadet, I would be honored to assist you.” The Vulcan started explaining exactly how the older replicator worked, as he demonstrated by replicating some simple petri dishes. To Kai, it would sound like one of his instructors from the Academy, but Kanto was simply explaining in the only way he knew how.

After learning the basic knowledge for the functioning, Kai took part on the console and immediately tried to input some command. With surprise and amazement, on his first try, he managed to replicate the unit of power cell needed to operate the relè.
Kai would insert the heavy cell in its casing and when the connection were finally done a blip sound notified that the relè OS was rebooting.
“Thanks Sir! Can I ask another favor? If you could check the power flow during the test, I don’t want the relè to explode. I and the NEs we’ll calibrate the module so we can adjust it, if something happened.” Told happily to the Vulcan.

The Vulcan nodded and went over to the computer station, setting it to monitor the desired testing elements. Once he was sure that he would be able to read all of the results clearly and efficiently, he responded to Kai. “Ready when you are, cadet.”

“Okay! I’ll start it up.” Said so, the Cadet pressed a bunch of buttons and used knobs on the module to set up the reboot process. With a heavenly sound (for engineers and computer mechanics) the relè signaled that it was on and ready for transmission: point #1. Check, start up this experimental device. Kai thought.
Now it was the moment to send actually a message, but what message?
“For now it seems working. Now for the message, I’ll just send hello world. If it is okey for everyone.” He told the group as he typed in the message in the terminal. When he set everything for the test, he firstly looked straight to Jeanna, then to Peabody. As last he stared Kanto for a couple of second and then he asked him: “are you ready, sir?”
When the button would have been pressed, that message would have travelled less than 10 meters with an insane velocity reducing communication speed. In alternative it would have made the relè blow off or maybe nothing would happen. Who knows, but certain thing was that Kai was super lit and impatient to know the result, and celebrate a party if his experiment proved to be a success.

Kanto responded with a simple “Ready” but he felt a sense of what could only be called pride in Cadet Kingstone. He has proven to be an extremely capable scientist in his own right. But when Kai looked over to him, he would see that stoic Vulcan resolve, not a shred of emotion on his face.

“Alright…” whispered out loud Kai. It was finally his moment: after pressing another set of button the device started making noises of chirpings and a constant sibilant tone was present. Then after a second or two by its activation, a phased and modulated string of light entered was emitted, ending suddenly a meter away and appearing again a meter from the receiver. It was interesting how the light entered and exited the subspace realm, thought Oliver.
“Okay, we get something, but the message is not clear. Jeanna, try to modulate the receiver’s decoder, I will try to find if the encoding process is working properly and if the message is being carried. Mr. Kanto, I guess it will start to get overheat after a time as it is a prototype, so if the temperature reaches a unsafe levels, maybe it’s opportune to cut off energy.”
And after said so, the Cadet and the NE started to work together. The blip of the buttons could be heard as they were working and Kanto should have started monitoring the energy flow and the temperature (maybe secretly checking the progress too).

As the relè was working fine for the first minutes, weird energy fluctuations started to appear to Kanto’s display and suddenly the temperature arose quickly: faulty energy coupler and safety dischargers may have been working improperly, and this could be a threat for everyone as it could explode and damage not only the Lab but even the hull itself if not handled carefully.
