The Vulcan’s office was as spartan as he was, save for a simple black box sitting on his desk alongside some PaDDs that displayed various scientific journals and reports. With the desk, there were two chairs, one behind and one in front of the desk, and a replicator in the wall. No awards, no models, no pictures, and no plants. Kanto was clearly about efficiency. He stopped by the replicator and it looked like he was considering something, but turned to Kai. “Something to drink, cadet? I believe it would be rude of me not to offer you some beverage?”

“No thanks sir, I’m pretty fine for now.” Replied with courtesy. The Cadet was looking around: the room was pretty naked, with no decorations. The only things he could see moving besides him and Mr. Kanto were the reports scrolling down and up on the PaDDs laid on the white desk.
He was pretty curious about the reports, but he could just read few words as Energized, focus and tractor beam.
Near the PaDDs a black box was sitting still. He wondered what it was, but was afraid to ask for the sake of the professional environment he was facing.

Cadet Kai O. Kingstone - Scientist

Kanto nodded to the cadet and then turned to the replicator. “Water, warmed to 10 degrees above room temperature.” As the beverage materialized, he collected it and walked over to his seat behind the desk.

“Please sit, Mr. Kingstone,” he offered, gesturing to the seat the cadet was standing besides.

Took a seat on the only available chair, Kai adjusted his uniform and crossed his arms

Taking a sip from his water, he then asked, “So cadet, what specialties are you bringing to the Endeavour’s Science team?”

Oliver took courage and told to Kanto: “my -My specialties are in particular the study of geology and quantum physic in general. But I have great knowledge of energy force field and advanced astronomy too.”
He stared him, to seek out some facial expression. But he knew, that his effort were just useless.

Kanto set his water down on the desk. “All admirable, cadet, you will definitely fit in nicely here. If there is ever anything you need, you have but to ask,” the Vulcan continued, “and if there are any special projects you would like me to consider, do not hesitate.”

Kai already thought about a project, that he wanted to continue, now that he was in space: “Mr. Kanto,” babbled Kai “I- I have a project that I started when I was in the Academy Campus.” Stopped taking a pause.
“I was working on a sub-space signal quantum accelerator, using experimental anti-photons circuits and emitters, to implement in the standard sub-space relays. Carrying the message with anti-photons, instead of the standard subspace signal in the subspace realm, will make the process faster… by 400%. That’s what I believe.” Ended
Awaiting for the response of his DH, Oliver bit his lip to keep himself calmer as he was agitated.

The Vulcan arched an eyebrow. “Fascinating,” he stated, as he listened to the cadet’s proposal. Even though he knew what the young man would need to conduct his research, Kanto told him, “Bring me a list of the equipment and personnel you will need to start this project. If it is within Starfleet standards, you can begin immediately thereafter. I look forward to seeing your progress, cadet.”

The cadet would nod to the DH, and started thinking about the materials necessary for the project.
“Mr. Kanto, I may have the list of the personnel?” Asked gently to the Vulcan.
“And I’ll make a report soon, after this meeting of the necessary equipment.”
He would lean himself toward the desk and again, adjust his sleeves and uniform, smiling just a bit and being slightly reddish for the embarrassment.

Cadet Kai O. Kingstone - Scientist

Kanto regarded Kai with the calm demeanor one would come to expect from a Vulcan. He picked up one of the PaDDs on his desk and tapped a few controls on it, then passed it to the cadet. “Here is the list of everyone that is currently in the Science Department aboard Endeavour. You will find that I have cross-referenced their on duty and off duty times with times that would be appropriate to conduct any special projects. I trust that will be sufficient?”

OOC: Other than everyone that is listed on the roster on Endeavour’s home page, the ship has a full complement of lower deck personnel. You can pretty much make up any of their names and add ‘NE’ (non-entity) before it. For example: NE Kent had to borrow a cup of isolinear chips from NE Wayne.

Gave a quick look to the PaDD, Kai returned a sight to Kanto of satisfaction and replied “yea! It should do. I already see some candidates… like NE Peabody and NE Jeanna.”
He would stand up and take the PaDD with him and asked gently: “May I leave, sir? I’ll start immediately my work, if you consider me able to work.” Smiled afterwards.
To be honest, he was trembling at the idea to meet the two NE Ensigns and ask them collaboration as he was still a cadet and them a rank ahead. But who knew, maybe perhaps he had the stirrups to become a good leader for the project.

OOC: Thanks for the advise! I’ll certainly keep it in mind for the future.

Kanto arched an eyebrow at the cadet’s eagerness. He let Kai stand there for almost a full minute before responding. It almost seemed like he enjoyed making the cadet uncomfortable. “Of course, cadet. You are dismissed. Let me know if you need anything at all.”

The endlessly time he stood up to wait his reply, was like ice in his mind as it seemed cooling down and slowing. The truth was that only one minute has passed and the Vulcan face’s seemed smirking of enjoyment for Kai.
Obviously he tried to keep a poker face, but the effort was double by the silent environment and the stable and staring face of Mr. Kanto.
When finally replied to the question, the Cadet would leave a sigh of relief and responded: “Yessir! I will not disappoint you.”
And just before leaving the office he would look back to the DH and commented: “I guess we’ll be great friends. Maybe.” Leaving a smile of embarrassment. Now his job was to collect the NEs he needed for the project - what a day!

Kanto watched the cadet go and thought to himself that he will make a perfectly suitable science officer. He picked one of the remaining PaDDs on his desk and pressed a few buttons. The article that popped up said Advanced Chroniton Particle Study. He began to read, wondering if he should let this new cadet help him with this project of his own…
