“I meet all of the Starfleet requirements for the position, if that is what you are asking. I also hold high honors on Vulcan from the Science Academy and was posted on the Lakur under the supervision of Krynvok for thirty years before I decided that joining Starfleet was the right decision for me.” He stopped abruptly as he must have realized that he may have offered more than was needed for the question.

Just as Kay had been about to let out an exasperated sigh at the Vulcan’s perfunctory response, her ears perked up at the information regarding his decision to join Starfleet. While an overview of his background had, of course, been part of his service record, there hadn’t been any information on why he had joined Starfleet. She took a moment to enjoy a sip of tea, intending not to seem too eager to jump on this tidbit of information.

“Why did you decide to join Starfleet, then, Lieutenant?” she queried, deciding that line would be hopefully more productive than pushing on whether he personally felt capable to be a department head.
