It had been a pretty hectic week since Kanto took over the position of Chief Science Officer of the Endeavour. He was sitting at his desk in the Science Lab, finalizing his weekly duty report, when a call came through his communicator.

=/\= Adrie to Kanto. Lieutenant, when you have a moment, please report to my office. Thank you. =/\=

That must be the new counselor, he thought. He set down his PaDD and replied, =^=Kanto to Adrie. Heard and received. I will head that way immediately.=^=

He made his way to the CNS office and tapped the chime, then waited patiently…

Kay smiled at Kanto’s quick response. While he hadn’t sought her out, at least he was going to remedy the situation quickly. She brought up his service record to glance through while she awaited his arrival, but her office door chimed quickly enough that she didn’t have much chance to review.

“Enter,” she called, her voice soft but commanding.

The Vulcan entered the counselor’s office cautiously but quickly, noting the surroundings as he did so. He stood in ‘at ease’ position, with his hands clasped behind his back and his legs apart exactly the width of his shoulders. His chest out and shoulders back, he offered, “Lieutenant Junior Grade Kanto, Chief Science Officer, reporting for psychological evaluation per Starfleet regulation 120-B. Arrival of new counselor on duty.”

Kay smiled at Kanto in a friendly, but professional manner and gestured to the comfortable looking chair in front of her desk. Her office followed the same general layout of a standard Starfleet office, but she had replaced the utilitarian seating in front of her desk with comfortable looking arm chairs complete with throw pillows.

“Please, take a seat, Lieutenant,” she welcomed him. “Can I get you a beverage before we begin?”

“Herbal tea would be appropriate,” Kanto replied as he allowed himself to relax slightly and move to the chair. As he sat down, the chairs felt comfortable enough to make him feel uncomfortable, if that were possible. Instead of leaning back into them as they were designed, the Vulcan edged as close to the end of the seat as he could without falling to the floor. The seat was too soft for his rigid posture.

Kay noted Kanto’s chair discomfort with a bemused look before turning to order him his tea. She got one for herself and returned to her desk with both cups in hand, placing one before the CSO on the desk. With his posture, it wouldn’t be a difficult reach to collect it from there. Sitting in her own chair, she mirrored his rigidity and took a small sip of the steaming beverage.

“How are you finding the Endeavour, Lieutenant?” she queried after a moment. “You were a cadet here, correct?”

Kanto took the tea graciously, and took a sip before answering. “Yes, I was, counselor. The Endeavour is a perfectly capable vessel, and I feel that my time here has been adequate. Being granted the position of Chief Science Officer was unexpected, but I am trying to fill the position to the best of my ability.” He took another sip, then shifted his shoulders ever so slightly.
