Her gazed followed the CE as she moved and it was clear there was tension in the other woman’s body. “Which one worries you the most?” Liadra asked, her tone remaining light and interested, but not in any way overly intense. She could be at times, especially in her enthusiasm, but Liadra had long learned to adapt to the tone of whomever she was sitting with. And it was hardly the first person who’d assumed a motive in her questioning. The real question was, was there truly a motive? Or was it all in the mind of the person feeling like they were being challenged?

Ang turned fully to face the woman. Her arms crossed over her chest to keep her fists from balling at her sides. “Would it make a difference?” She narrowed her eyes, half closing them, and ground her teeth a moment before answering. “If I say it’s being female, then you question my choice of jobs. If it’s my heritage, you question my stability and acceptance as a half breed. So I ask again, do you ask everyone, or just me?”

The problem was, Ang had been brought to conflict on both counts. Female engineers were one thing, but rarely made supervisors. And few Klingons who joined Star Fleet chose careers outside of security, Marine or other combative, offensive positions.
If the counselor questioned everyone this way, to see their responses, that’s y was one thing. But if she was doing it because of the young women’s twice anomalous appearance, that was something else entirely.

And Ang want sure she liked that at all.

To be a psychotherapist, you had to have the ability to take in the reactions of others with empathy while simultaneously letting their reactions bounce off of you so that a proper discussion could be had. In this case, To’kar’s aggression was noted and it was clear that the CE wanted her react, even if that wasn’t the thought in her mind. “Sometimes a question is just that, a question.”
