The Denobulan woman had a curious shade of pale pink to her hair normally light brown hair, which was pulled over one shoulder and secured with an oval-shaped glossy black clip. Looking up at the door, her grey eyes held warmth as she smiled. “Well, Cadet Kanto, do come on in and join me and we can get to know one another a bit better,” she said, gesturing to the sofa and setting the PADD she had been reading on a side table.

“Tell me about your studies and what is the most intriguing thing you have learned so far,” Liadra said, intentionally setting the tone for their conversation.

“I see,” Liadra said with a light smile. “How did your father take that decision?” It could be a difficult thing to go against a family member, but it depended on so many factors that she would never presume to guess the exact situation.

Kanto took a moment to collect his thoughts before he answered. “Not well, unfortunately. He always assumed that I would take on the Lakur in the future, but I was never that sure that I was on the correct path. When I left for Starfleet, my father did not come to see me off. It is possible that he had more pressing concerns. T’Lyr reassured me that she would continue on in my absence and monitor my father’s well being.”

The way he phrased it made it sound like he hadn’t heard for a bit. “And has she? How has your father been doing since you’ve been away?” This was definitely one of those conversations where she was simply going to go where the person in front of her led. Where they ended up, well, that was anyone’s guess.

The cadet shifted ever so slightly before responding, almost as if he realized that he may have said too much. But the counselor asked a question, and he felt as if he should give her the courtesy of an answer.

“T’Lyr is efficient. We have corresponded several times over the past few years, and she informed me that my father continues his work without interruption.” He arched an eyebrow. “Fascinating. As a counselor, you are doing an exemplary job. I ended up volunteering personal information without you having to say much.” Looking uncomfortable, for a Vulcan, Kanto shifted again, almost imperceptibly.
