She grinned and gave a slight chuckle. “A worthy reason. Was it an easy decision or a difficult one? And what made you say no to security?” A ‘point’ for one side didn’t mean a negative for the other, so it was always interesting to have someone explain the thought process they went though to make such a big decision that would dictate their career for at least the next several years.

AJ looked up “I said no to security because I really do like the idea of the strain that comes with engineering, So if it’s something as simple as realigning the deflector or recalibration of sensor, or if it be we are in a big battle and I am being asked to try avoid a warp core breach, it’s very hands on and demanding and I like that thought”.

AJ just realised that was quite a bold statement about being in a big battle as the only battles he has been in was on holodecks.

“Why Starfleet? I mean, anyone can learn to fix engines and repair systems and there can be some career options for someone in the merchant fleet or on private vessels. Starfleet is demanding and its entrance standards are very high. What made it something you even considered?” she asked seriously.

“Oh I understand, well It’s what Starfleet stands for, there are some that think it’s just a military but we are not, we are Diplomats we get to meet new species we get to see new planets, we explore and it’s worth the high standards”.

AJ had a never really thought about the reasons before until that very moment, he probably think of more reasons if the question had not caught him by surprise.
