The doors to sickbay slid open, making their iconic “whoosh” noise. Cadet Joseph Lovell entered sickbay slowly, first his head, and then the rest of him. He breathed a sigh of relief as he looked around at the various medical beds and scanners. This was definitely Sickbay, he thought, and was where he needed to be - unlike the cafeteria he had accidentally stumbled into, lost, fifteen minutes prior. Joseph knew he had to report here for a boarding physical, but his instructions weren’t clear on when or to whom.

The cadet put on his best “lost puppy” face and looked for someone in a blue shirt. Approaching the first person he could find that wasn’t with a patient, he sheepishly announced himself: “Excuse me, could you tell me if this is the correct place to report for my mandatory boarding physical?”

Buckingham was working at one of the stations in Sickbay when he heard Cadet Lovell speak. He turned around, looked at the Cadet and smiled. “Hello!” He said warmly as he held his hand for a Handshake. “You’ve got the right place here. I’m Cadet Buckingham, but most people call me Tom. The CMO has just stepped out, but I dare say she’ll be back any moment. So, I can get you started with your Physical until she returns, if you’d like?”

Joseph nodded. “Sure.. I assume you’re qualified?” he said with a laugh, only half joking. He wasn’t sure whether he should be relieved or worried that his examiner would be a fellow cadet. Joseph motioned towards an empty medical bed, before casually sliding onto it and introducing himself. “I’m Cadet Joseph Lovell, Engineering Division. I’ve just transferred from Starfleet Academy on Earth.”

“You needn’t worry” Tom chuckled. “I’m fully qualified. Complete with all the funny little letters that come after my name too.” He joked. He tried his best to put his patient at ease. He could appreciate that not everybody was comfortable when having a Physical done, yet alone having it done by a Cadet. Tom followed Joseph to the Biobed and allowed him time to get comfortable before talking again.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you Joseph.” Tom said as he removed his Medical Tricorder from his Lab Coat pocket, he held it closed in his hand for the time being. “So Joseph, I’ll pull up your Medical History. Are there any conditions or concerns you have that I should be made aware of before I begin your Examination?”

Joseph momentarily considered making a joke about being allergic to tricorder rays, but figured it best saved for later. “No conditions or concerns I can think of, doctor.” he said, watching the tricorder. The engineer drifted off for a moment, wondering what the various beeps and boops coming from the device meant. The hungry grumble of his stomach snapped him back to reality, reminding him the sooner he finished here the sooner he could go eat.

“I do tend to have strong reactions to Earth allergens.. But I don’t suppose there are too many lawns being mowed up here?” he asked.

“One would hope not” Tom chuckled as he continued to scan Cadet Lovell. “I’ll be sure to note your reaction to earth Allergens on your Medical Profile, if it isn’t there already.” Tom scanned for a couple more moments before snapping the Tricorder closed. “Well Joseph, Everything seems to be quite in order with regards to your health. Do you have any other questions or concerns before I clear you for Duty?”
