Riley took the man’s hand. “Matthew Riley,” he responded. “Science.” He cocked his head. “If I may, your accent - northern England? I grew up in the old States, but did some of my graduate studies at Cambridge. I was good with recognizing accents back home, but England was a tough one for me to crack, as the accents could change over a few miles it seemed.” He paused. “Apologies if I got it wrong.”

“Aye, you’re a quick study! How was Cambridge for you?” Kyle could see how nervous the young science officer was, so tried to make conversation as pleasant as he could, “I never really ventured outside of the Academy branch in New London.”

Riley shrugged and chuckled. “On one hand, it was amazing going to a place with 12 hundred years of history. On the other, they always made sure you knew you were attending a place with 12 hundred years of history.” He took a few steps over and lifted his towel, using it to dry his neck, leaving it draped there while he held the ends. “I got out some in the local area, and did a few stints at observatories around the countryside. It was mostly work, though, but I enjoyed it. The people were always friendly when I did get out.”

He paused, eyes unfocused. “Cambridge was probably my favorite school, actually. Made some good friends.”
