McMorran allowed herself to turn achingly slowly to allow her eyes to meet Cadet Riley’s. She nodded encouragingly before returning to… whatever it was she was doing.

Matthew nodded back to the lieutenant. Well at least he thinks I’m on the right path. It’s amazing what a
simple thing like a nod can do, he pondered. Facing the machine again he pursed his lips, then inserted his hands into a slot below the table. A soft hiss sounded, and he removed his hands, now covered in a spray-on glove coating. He looked about and found the next apparatus he needed.

He crossed back to the table beside T’Mor, grabbed another bag, and approached a positionable magnifier tablet. He pulled out the contents of the bag and began examining the clothing for tears or other evidence, waiting on the results from the biologics scanner.

T’Mor, after thinking it over, decided to inform Cadet Riley of her conjectures, as well as some additional supporting evidence. While not specifically necessary to accomplish the task, it might answer his question about what they were looking for.

“Current evidence suggests that the security footage of the area where the body was found was, ‘mucked about with’.” With this phrase, she glanced over to McMorran for any signs that she had used it inappropriately. T’mor continued,

“Though it is merely a conjecture, I believe there was someone at the scene of the crime that was not on the security feed, and is trying to hide the fact that they were present around the time of the cadet’s death. This at the very least this person could be a potential wittiness. However, they are also a suspect.”

In a few swift steps she was over at the first machine he used to scan the clothing. T’Mor spoke as she took a closer look at the reading the scan gave out. Usually, when looking for DNA, it was for microbs that would be typically live on clothing, not the creatures inside. Still their was a high chance she could recover some DNA containing particles.

“I agree with your decision in scanning the clothing for contaminants first. Though it is merely my own thought, I believe we should be focusing on potential sources of DNA, or other evidence of an additional person or life form of some kind.”

Matthew glanced at the Vulcan and gave a half smile. “Great minds, Cadet,” he responded, then looked at the biologics scanner display. “That should give us any DNA evidence from the clothing, both the wearer and any other sources.” He pondered for a bit. “We may need to set up a filter by decay rate to rule out any sources older than the timeframe of the, uh… death.”

He was quiet for a moment, then resumed checking for tears on the second article of clothing. “I was certainly not expecting my first assignment here to be a murder investigation.”

He paused, then turned back to her. “And I am so sorry, I did not catch your name. I’m Matthew Riley.”
