Assuming that the counselor would be shortly behind her, Emmy made it to her ready room in record time. They were barely inside the door and it had only just swished shut behind them when she turned to the commander, expectantly.

Just as she the door swished shut, junior Lieutenant Mika’s voice came over the comm unit. =/\= Sickbay to Captain Davis, I’ve got a little more info here. Unfortunately, it’s not good news. The Ensign was dosed with benzodiazepines, a class of anti-anxiety sedative that would easily put someone to sleep. It would’ve had to have been gotten from Sickbay, but that still means the entire med team and commanding officers would have access. =/\=

Hilo looked off in thought before his eyes swept back to the captain. “The security feed in Commander Holmman’s hot tub chamber was also tampered with. So whoever is responsible has both access, and skills.”

The counselor cleared his throat, obviously uncomfortable with the report, considering that his personal suspicions still lied with Holmman, despite his hope that someone else was responsible. “Commander Holmman maintains that he has no memory of the ensign’s death, and that in fact he has no memory of the last twelve hours before her death was reported. He says his last memory was around 20:00 last night, when he was informed that he received a call in his quarters, which he went to answer before backing out.” He paused to comb his memory of the conversation. “Commander Holmman claims that he and Ensign Pay weren’t acquainted before last night. He also said that he hasn’t had blackouts like this before, and there’s no indication in his file of violent behavior or neurological episodes.”

Hilo sighed through his nose before stating his final opinion plainly: “The evidence currently provides no alternative suspects. Commader Holmman has access to both the security feed and sickbay, and has been the only person connected to the crime scene. That being said, an outright… murder seems uncharacteristic of an otherwise upstanding Starfleet officer. And there’s no motive.” Putting on his counselor cap for a moment, Hilo added, “He didn’t strike me as being dishonest during our conversation, and seemed to be earnestly interested in solving the case for reasons greater than simply clearing his name.”
