Kyle breifly scolded himself for running on auto pilot at an inapropriate moment. He nodded in understanding.
“Yes ma’am, I have a theory if I may? Someone has deliberately turned up the heat in here, possibly to conceal entry. This is more of a hunch than a definitive possibility, but normally, you can detect a slight ripple in the air around you if someone is trying to conceal themselves, like how the Jem’Hadar used portable cloaking tech during the Dominion War to outwit us during ground combat. It would be harder to detect that ‘ripple’ if something like this steam was coating the room. With your permission, I can initiate a sweep for tachyon particles?”
Anders hoped that this theory was not too far fetched, there was just something about this fog that he did not like.
-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-
As she entered, T’Mor was immediately hit with the heavy humid air. It was terribly uncomfortable, not so much the heat but the added moisture. Additionally there were the smells. The sterilization agent of the hot tub, the rose petals, and the alcohol. She stood by McMorran and listened to Anders’ idea. It was an interesting theory. Though at this time she was not aware of any indication of an intentional murder, she believed he was on to something.
Upon entering the space the heat had hit Aili like a hammer. The pale woman didn’t take well to hot climates, especially one so artificially intense. She began flapping a hand, fanning her face in an effort to somehow beat back the heat. “Well Cadet, it is a hot tub but this does seem… excessive.” She glanced over at the hot tub controls. “Aye, it’s at the maximum.” The CSO took a deep breath and blew out loudly, in response to both Anders’ theory and the heat. “Tachyon particles? You think someone on this ship has access to a personal cloaking device?” She sounded sceptical. “Very well, proceed. We must be thorough.”
McMorran’s fanning hand gave up and lurched at the zip of her uniform, undoing it slightly so she was less tightly wrapped. “T’Mor, thoughts?”
“Humans have been known to suffer serious heat exhaustion while intoxicated.” she said, using her eyes to indicate the champagne bottle.
The CSO nodded. “Noted.”
As far as T’Mor was aware, the orders had already been given to her, so there was no need to ask permission before starting to investage the scene. Specifically, she walked over to examine the glasses and bottle for finger prints. Leaning over with tricorder in hand, she began by gathering the visual data, and being careful not to touch the glass in the process. For good measure, also scanning the chemical composition of the champagne. At this distance the smell of it was almost overwhelming.
(OOC: Besides the other information: Has the champagne been out long enough to sour? It will usually lose it’s fizz a few hours after opening, but it also spoils really fast in heat. Do I smell sour champagne or is it fresh?)

McMorran looked on approvingly as the cadet set to work. Again glancing around the scene she pondered what to first investigate herself. After considering the clothing she mentally shrugged and approached the tub itself. Kneeling beside it, she held her tricorder over the still water, looking for any abnormalities in its content.

OOC: Fixing the split I created. What timing!
-JamieAssuming T’Mor was something of a sommelier, she would notice that the aromatics had lessened but the taste of it she wouldn’t be able to determine unless she tasted it, at least not here. The glass did have finger prints, both of them did and a cursory glance showed that there were two sets of thumb prints, but whose they were would be difficult to determine here.
The hot tub had an unconscious XO and a corpse in it, plus the normal sterilizer and softeners to make it the premier relaxations spot on the ship. There was a lot of junk Aili would have to sift through if she was looking for anything specific.

Aili sighed audibly. Field chemistry was… not her strong suit. With little hope of finding anything meaningful, the she reconfigured her tricorder to scan for any trace of compounds with matches in the medical database, such as any kind of drug.
As McMorran continued her work, she gave up on maintaining her composure. With her free hand she struggled with the zip on her jacket, finally removing the outer layer of her upper uniform altogether. Dropping the jacket at her side, the woman looked far more at ease with her arms exposed to the open air. “Any progress?” she asked the room.
Lt. J.G. Aili McMorran - CSO
As T’Mor proceeded to look over the hot tub, Kyle allowed his eyes to glance up at the ceiling. “Computer,” he called out, “Initiate a Level 3 Tachyon Sweep of the XO’s quarters.” Kyle stood watching the young Vulcan as he awaited the results.
-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-
The computer was silent for a moment as beams whirled in the air completing the scan. “No Tachyon particles detected,” came the brisk and professional reply.
In the water in the hot tub, the CSO wouldn’t find anything unusual other than some stray compounds that were the result of common chemical reactions.

“If I may, Lieutenant,” T’Mor started, “I suggest we have these finger prints analyzed to confirm who was present at the scene.”
She had no idea at this point that there was foul play involved. Though it did not matter, as she was focused on simply doing her job. So much so she barely acknowledged the Tachyon scan, and had no idea that the other cadet was looking her way.
T’Mor switched her tricorder to scan the champagne itself. It was set to scan for anything that was not alcohol that could have effected the partakers. While her eye was more trained to recognize organic compounds or microorganisms, she knew enough about the basic composition to recognize if something was off.

Damn, Kyle mused to himself. He turned to Lieutenant McMorran, “Well ma’am, there goes one theory. Might I suggest that I go to check the Security feed of the XO’s quarters, that’s our next best theory?”
