It was about this time Mika’s distraction arrived, Large black eyes regarded the room as the Viridian Saurian slipped in quietly. Blinking both sets of eyelids he said, “I.. was unaware that humans could change their skin pigment. Can you make any other colors?” With a perpetual smile already evident in his features, it was hard to tell if he was joking or seriously inquiring.

It was at this point that Mika just dropped her head onto the table with a loud thunk. “No. We can’t.” She said to Zenzgii, without picking up her head. “What is this, Pick-On-Tandra-Day? I’m not even the one who sent that dang email,” She said into the table. She wasn’t really upset - she knew they were just kidding about with her, but she couldn’t help the feeling of Please just let me shrivel up and die, that’d be great, thanks. All the senior staff had seen what was clearly meant to be a personal email - and these were people she hoped to gain the respect of, to be able to work alongside well. Now she felt a bit like a joke.

Rainns smile changed from one of amusement to one of sadness. “Sorry Doc, didn’t mean to put you under that kind of stress, just poking a little fun at you.” He sat down at the table with her. He understood her social anxiety in that moment. He too hated being in the spotlight, especially when it came to his private relationships. “It’s quite sweet actually, you two have something really truly special, and that makes the rest of us happy for you. We joke because even though it may be embarrassing, it’s a reminder to the rest of us of how beautiful you two are.” He stopped talking, he probably sounded fake and artificial, but he meant every word of what he had said. The whole incident had reminded of how he and Sharah would act around each other, a chemistry he sorely missed.

“Thanks, Rainns,” Tandra said, lifting her head off the table. It did make her feel better, but she still felt hopelessly embarrassed. “I guess I just get a little… too embarrassed. I view it as a very.. um, personal, thing…”
“How are we all?” McMorran asked as she strolled into the space, allowing her accent to paint in broad strokes and playfully rolling the r.The red haired woman smiled all around as she planted herself at the table at a seat beside Mika and with a smack set down a full glass bottle. Whisky. Aili looked around the gathering, smiling at her colleagues one by one. “For once I have no work to be doing tonight. I intend to enjoy the evening!”
She finally allowed herself to look directly at Tandra. Her patience was deliberate, not wanting to risk embarassing the good doctor by seeming overly attached. Upon seeing the emotion painted obviously on Tandra’s face, it was obvious to Aili at least, her smile crumbled and she quickly grabbed ahold of the other woman’s hand under the table. Aili’s face was the very image of concern.

Tandra’s head snapped up as she saw Aili enter, and she smiled. “Aili! You know this is a coffee shop, right?” She said, looking at the bottle of whiskey.
“Aye but you know I never get an evening off!” Aili chuckled heartily.
When she sat down, Tandra felt Aili take her hand, and she felt comforted with her there. “Oh, and next time, maybe um,” she leaned and and whispered to her, “don’t press ‘reply all’, yeah?” She said, not sure if Aili had even realized the mistake, or the fact that everyone here had seen her message.

Aili’s laughter diminuendoed as she worked out what it was that Tandra had said. In the end her features were pale, blank and expressionless and a soft “oh” was all that existed to accompany her lack of visual expressiveness.

Hilo walked back over to the table where the department heads had gathered with a hot chocolate and a smile. He set his drink down on the table and moved to grab another chair from a nearby table and pulled it over to make sure there were enough seats for everyone. Then he sat down and let out a happy sigh. “It’s good to all be in one place,” he said, “that seems to rarely happen outside of a staff meeting called by the captain.” Hilo raised his eyebrows at the alcohol McMorran had brought. Not judgmentally, but in mild surprise and amusement.
(Lt. Cmdr. Hilo, Counselor)
Rainns eyed the bottle of alcohol that McMorran had brought with her. Slowly, he reached out across the table and grasped the bottle. Slowly he began to pull it back, the bottom of it scraping it along the table surface making the sound akin to claws on a chalkboard, although not nearly as bad. “Sorry, Sorry” He repeated several times, wincing at the sound. He looked around at everyone at the table as he did this. Finally, after what seemed like hours, he pulled to himself. Looking at everyone seated around him again. He gave a blank stare. “I need this.” He said plainly, and slowly taking the top off he poured a bit of whiskey into his empty mug. He then capped the bottle and slid it back, in the same slow fashion back to McMorran. After he slid the bottle back to her he leaned back in his, seat, gave another look around the table, and brought the mug up to his lips for a drink.

Large Black eyes seemed to change shades as Zenzgii’s nictitating membrane closed before he took and empty mug. Striding toward the Barista he simply asked for a cup of black coffee and croissant. “So.. the rest of you generally work the daylight hours?”
