Rainns sat back against the wrecked debris. “How long do you need to wait for?” he asked, picking up a small rock and tossing it up and down.

Lt. JG Joseph Rainns- COS

“The computer will determine how strong the compress is, how severe the injury and whether or not we found the correct plant, etc. This is the lowest difficulty of the program.” Sharah watched him toss the rock and admired his coordination. “If we had a medical tricorder we would already know, but again, that’s not standard and a scientific tricorder doesn’t give the amount of detail we need, so…we wait.” She looked over the pilot, he was quiet and didn’t seem to be in extreme amounts of pain, but setting the injuries, although painful at the time, the pain would ease naturally because the limbs were back in the correct place.
“Okay, so while we wait. How did you do that?” She pointed to the bowls. “I’m going to guess that most officers can do that with a phaser, or is just you are that skilled?” Sharah needed to write down exactly what he did and how and then determine if she needed to include it.

Cadet Fayth, Doctor

“I just cupped my hands around some clay, made the desired shape, set the phaser on its lowest setting and sort of..” Rainns paused and used air quotes, “baked”” it.” As he said this he continued to toss the rock.

Lt. JG Joseph Rainns- COS

She looked a little exasperated. “I meant with the phaser. Would another officer know how to adjust the settings to use it to ‘bake’ the clay or heat the bowl without melting the whole thing?” Sharah had no idea. She was horrible with phasers, it really did drive her brother crazy. She couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn much less adjust it to do what Rainns had done.

While they were talking the computer announced, “SIMULATION COMPLETE. OBJECTIVE ACHIEVED.” Sharah’s face lit up. She had the urge to hug him. She stopped herself before she got up. “Thank you. I couldn’t have finished this without your help.” She stood up, “Computer end program, and give me the time.”
The holodeck turned back into the black and yellow grid. “TIME IS 1812 HOURS.” She glanced at Rainns sharing her thoughts, ‘I’m off duty and I want to celebrate.’
Cadet Fayth, Doctor

“Oh.” Rainns said holding the phaser up, “No I just set it to its lowest setting. No technical skill required for that.” Rainns was happy to here that he was 12 minutes off shift. ‘I’m actually fairly tired.’ he responded, slowly getting up from the floor of the holodeck. ‘What did you have in mind?’

Lt. JG Joseph Rainns- COS

Sharah stepped out the door and over to the interface. She transfered the results from the program to her console so she could go over them later. “Thank you,” she said turning to him. In a very short time he had solved all the problems she had been having. ‘Another dinner, on me as a thank you? I need to go make sure I left the lab in order very quickly. If you’re tired though, I don’t want to keep you. Right now I’m so excited I’d probably irritate you.’ She laughed, obviously joking as she started walking back toward the lab.
Cadet Fayth, Doctor

“No problem,” Rainns responded with a smile as he followed her out the door. ‘Dinner would be nice.’ He responded. He kept with the Doctor as she made her way back to the lab.

Lt. JG Joseph Rainns- COS

‘Do you want to meet me at my quarters? I don’t know about you, but’ she looked down at her uniform. It was wet from wading in the water and the humid climate of the holodeck setting, ‘I want something clean. I’ll only be a couple minutes in here.’ She entered the lab and took the samples she had made and closed the containers, placing them in a cabinet. She picked up the discarded materials and but them into be reclaimed and straightened up and put away the last of the equipment. It only took her a few minutes. ‘All done.’ She stepped outside. “Computer initiate sanitation protocol for Biochemistry Lab.” Once the protocol was finished she unlocked the lab door.
