“So in other wards, I’m boring you and you are curious to see what everyone else on the ship is up to.” Rainns smirked. “I am sorry to have forced you to scour the ship or a more interesting conversation,” he apologized in a sarcastic tone.

Sharah’s eyes got really big and she looked Really mad. His sudden change in mood hurt, but she knew she would not back down and hide because his accusation hurt so much. He mattered too much to her. She put the thoughts right into his head. ‘You know I’ve kept this connection open to you so you can see what I’m thinking anytime you want, and if you really accepted me as I am, you’d know that’s not true. I only wanted to know so I could do this,’ with butterflies and all she tugged his hand bringing him closer so she could kiss him. After a long moment she pulled away. Swiping away tears, ‘Joseph Rainns that was not fair. You said you would accept me and all my faults as I am. I can’t stop what I hear and I do my best to filter it. I told you earlier what I wanted, I’m not so insubstantial a person to change my mind that quickly.’
She turned and walked a few feet away to look out a window.

Fayth’s agitated reaction took Joseph Rainns by surprise, amusement was replaced with confusion. ‘Sharah’ he thought, ‘I was making a joke, I know you can’t help it.’ He walked up to her and put his hand on her shoulder. ‘My humor is a little blunt and sarcastic, I’m sorry if you didn’t find the joke funny. I know you aren’t bored with me, the link works both ways, if you were I would have known and done my best to alleviate it, not make a cutting remark about it.’ He had thought his sarcastic tone had indicated a jovial attitude, but it seemed Fayth had interpreted it as cynicism.

Sharah’s face made a little “O” of shock and then she covered her face with her hands, ‘Oh…I…I’ve really messed up. I’m so so sorry. No one’s ever joked like that around me. Everyone’s always so serious and I thought....” She was NOT going to cry…okay so she already was but it was going to stop, she needed to get a hold of herself. She wiped her face and looked up at him, speaking aloud, “Joseph, I am so sorry. You didn’t deserve that.”
The only way she knew to convey what she was thinking was to stop talking aloud. ‘I just really wanted to know we were alone. I know how you feel about other officers seeing into your personal life and I wanted to respect that, and then I just did exactly what I accused you of. Please forgive me’

Joseph took both her hands with his, ‘It’s fine, I understand how you feel and I should have read your mood a little better, I use sarcasm a lot so I didn’t even think about how you would perceive it. I appreciate the fact that you want to make sure we are alone.’ He wrapped his arms around her. “It’s ok Sharah.” He said out loud. ” I would never purposefully come after you like that.”

“I know that, and that makes me feel more guilty.” Because instead of thinking through it she reacted based on her own limited experience rather than what she already knew about him and felt from him. She had to stop and take inventory of herself. Usually she was so calm around Joseph. Was she tired, overwhelmed? No, she had simply had been lost in her own happiness that moved dangerously close to that giant ball of fear that rolled around her head constantly. She was going to have meditate or something to sort herself out. ‘I promise to do my best not to over react again. I should have just asked you instead of assuming.’
